THE STARVING MUSICIAN

The Starving Musician's name might have come from an old phrase akin to struggling musicians, but patrons of the caf rarely ever leave starving. In July of 2011, ElizaBeth Beckham opened the establishment as a bakery and music publishing house, however once the business took off, baking took over.

A self-taught baker, Beckham makes everything in her restaurant from scratch. What once started as a place for breads and pastries, evolved into a full menu.

Now customers will find breakfast items, soups, salads, sandwiches, casseroles, desserts and much more. She features a special of the day, and also caters to those watching their weight with a Skinny Up menu item daily.

A selection of pottery and gifts are available in the shop, along with take home breads, casseroles and desserts.

As a special treat, Beckham has a day of the week where a certain numbered customer gets their meal for free.

The Starving Musician is located at 323 Cotton Row, and is open Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. You can contact them at (662) 843-7535. Their menu and information is also available online at www.thestarvingmusicianms.com, and weekly menus and up-to-date information is also available on their Facebook page.

 Keep Cleveland Boring

THINK LOCAL - BUY LOCAL - BECOME LOCAL

submitted by Danny Abraham

People don't like losing shops and services in Cleveland, however, many don't understand and equate this to how they spend their money.  As the owner of Abraham's, and Alderman of Ward 3, I have a unique perspective on "shopping and buying locally".

Cleveland's budget runs approximately $20 million annually.  Our "Big Three" revenue items are SALES TAX, TOURISM TAX, and AD VALOREM TAX.  These three revenue items make up 1/2 of our entire city budget.  Our sales tax revenue alone represents $3-$4 million of Cleveland's annual budget.

So, why should you shop in Cleveland first?  Here are a few important points to ponder when considering shopping out of town.

*LOCAL STORES INVEST MORE IN CLEVELAND

*BY SHOPPING LOCAL, YOU CREATE JOBS IN CLEVELAND

*SHOPPING IN CLEVELAND HELPS KEEP YOUR COMMUNITY UNIQUE

*BY SHOPPING IN CLEVELAND, YOU KEEP YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT HOME

*WHEN YOU SHOP IN CLEVELAND, YOU ENCOURAGE LOCAL PROSPERITY

*YOU GET BETTER SERVICE SHOPPING WITH PEOPLE YOU KNOW

*SHOPPING IN CLEVELAND, REDUCES THE IMPACT TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT

As we all realize that it's not always possible to find everything we need at home, merely remember to "think Cleveland first".  By doing so, you are "supporting yourself".  The redistribution of Cleveland's tax revenue helps pay for your police and fire protection.  When you shop out of town, you are essentially helping pay for another community's expenses.

Let's all support ourselves as citizens of the "best" community in the Delta.

Please remember to, SHOP CLEVELAND FIRST!  By doing so, it could literally mean millions of Dollars in local economic activity; creating new opportunities and jobs in our great hometown of Cleveland, Mississippi.
