Teens are struggling with Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol issues in Epidemic proportions.
Parents struggle when their teens are in trouble at school, at home, with their friends, with drugs and, possibly with the law.
Families, School Officials and the patient themselves are all impacted by Mental Illness, whether it is through waiting for a diagnosis, operating day-to-day, or receiving treatment.
The New York Times reports: Findings, based on interviews with a nationwide sample of more than 6,000 teenagers and at least one parent of each, linked suicidal
behaviour to complex combinations of mood disorders like depression, and behavior problems like attention-deficit and eating disorders, as well as alcohol and drug abuse.
The stresses and strains of Mental Illness impact the family similar to any other disease, and should be diagnosed and treated as you would any other disease.
In addition to a strong personal support system, a professional network is critical for all individuals involved, if there is to be any real change.
