AVAILABLE NOW
| | 2014 WithIt Member Resource Guide is Available
New in the guide - 2013 and 2014 Scholarship winners, announcement of the proposed 2015 board (watch for your ballot), an in memoriam page, 2013 and 2014 WOW honorees and many new faces with profiles in the member directory. Thank you to Amy Van Dorp and Wright Global Graphic Solutions for a beautifully published guide. The directory this year is $25. The WithIt Board had one clear goal for 2014 and that was to rebuild and once again be financially stable. Instead of raising membership prices, it was decided to offer the guide at a cost. We would like for this to be the only year that we charge for the guide. Hopefully the economy will grow stronger and we can meet that goal. Members have told us WHY they love the guide:- It is a business resource.
- It is easy to find someone in your area.
- It is easy to find someone in your type of business.
- It puts a face with a name.
To purchase, just go online. MasterCard and Visa only please. |

ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCE

#WITHIT2014
Following Leslie Carothers The Kaleidoscope Partnership
Long time WITHIT member, Leslie Carothers, CEO of The Kaleidoscope Partnership, a brand development and social media agency for the furniture and interior design industry, attended our recent #WITHIT2014 Leadership Development Conference.
While she was there, she shared her thoughts and takeaway nuggets on her own personal Facebook Profile.
We asked Leslie for her permission to share what she wrote, word for word, unedited, and she agreed.
We'd love to hear your thoughts and takeaways, too.
August 11
And this is what the #WITHIT2014 Leadership Development Conference teaches us to do.. how to be our BEST selves, in the world of business..and in our lives.
Now, off for some COFFEE...downstairs.

E.nergy
August 11
When any group of people get together for the 1st time at a networking event, everyone is nervous - Two good icebreakers? "What do you hope to learn by being at this conference?" or "I'd love to learn more about what you do day to day in your business."
August 12
What were my own takeaways today that will help you?
1. Trish Mueller, CMO of Home Depot shared the memorable phrase, "doormat moments." She said, pick your battles, but if someone is treating you poorly you have to communicate clearly with them that that behavior is not ok, let them know specifically why it's not ok, and then communicate to them what behavior is ok with you.
2. Krisstina Wise talked about P.A.C.E. being her version of time management. She has 2 kids, is married, has a home, has 25 employees and 4 companies. She lives, what seems to me, a crazy life but what helps her live it is intense planning and sticking to the plan.
The E in PACE stands for E.nergy Management which she said is the true secret to being ultra successful. She meditates 15 minutes every morning and recommended an app for it called HEADSPACE.
3. Paula Fogarty spoke {her talk was truthful but a little too negative, in my honest opinion, but then she got on a panel with the VP of Human Resources for Haverty's + a well known male executive recruiter in our industry.. and that was ENLIGHTENING.
Women, he said, are not negotiating for the same BONUS packages as men are and are, consequently, being paid between 15 to 20% less than male senior executives and CEO's in our industry.
So, ladies, learn to negotiate those bonuses.
4. Then came the concurrent expert exchange sessions and then came a great session on networking from Helene Lollis CEO of Pathfinders
Takeaway?
She is all about planning for any networking event you're going to attend and, even if it's only a 30 minute networking event, having a plan for what you're going to ask each person before you get to the event and how you are going to exit each conversation...because, even though you may be talking to a *lovely person*, they may not be the person you need to invest more time with at a networking event.
She said it's important to realize that a business networking event is a NETWORKING event and to not feel insulted if someone needs to exit a conversation earlier than you might feel comfortable with. Each person attending a networking event is there to meet people and form connections that could lead to potential future business relationships.
Later in the day...what I learned-again? How wonderful and supportive the women of WITHIT are.. thank you Lark Shirley-Stevens, Kelly Peterson, Stephanie Lowder, Sara Lyke, Dana Helms, Cindi Williams, Violette Forman, Carol Gregg, Caroline Hipple, Patricia Bowling > each of you + everyone else make WITHIT what it is today.
A great talk right now by the two women who own the design firm, NANDINA re: branding. They are talking about the importance of blogging, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram right now to their business, but also about how important it is to also be in front of your potential customer's face to face.
They are also talking about the importance of hiring out for the expertise you need, if you don't have it yourself.
August 13
Dwell with Dignity's founder, Lisa, is speaking now at #WITHIT2014. She is sharing a sliver of a Ted talk to start.
Fabulous. The Ted Talk guy, Simon Sinek, is saying: GREAT companies start with the WHY.
They communicate the WHY of what they do, FIRST...and then communicate the how, and the what...

#WITHIT 2014
| | WithIt Giving Back
Connie Post, president of Affordable Design Solutions by Connie Post, challenged the attendees of the 2014 WithIt Professional Conference to GIVE BACK to women in the city of Atlanta. She asked everyone to save their hotel soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion and donate them at the end of the conference. WithIt attendees came through! Not only did attendees save personal beauty care items, they donated books, magazines and MONEY.
 | Cindy Williams, left, and Tommie DeGonzaque, Cherokee Family Violence Center in Canto Ga. | Cindy Williams, Wright Global Graphic Solutions, delivered these items to the Cherokee Family Violence Center on behalf of WithIt. Here is her update:
"Here is a picture of me with Tommie DeGonzaque from the Cherokee Family Violence Center in Canto Ga. They were thrilled to get our donations. I took the cash and purchased several Walmart gift cards with it. This was a Godsend to them. They were in desparate need of financial donations for food due to the high number of families they are currently serving. I am so proud of our WithIt members!"
