Looking Forward
What is the part that our industry plays in the perception of our culture? The slant on the news, what is covered and how it is covered.
What impact can we have on the media industry? Now is the time to step up and speak up.
Many in Hollywood are doing just that! Courageous writers, producers and directors are going against the grain of the typical absence of morals and purity and providing quality, family friendly entertainment. Let us be encouraged by these programs and support them:
The Hallmark Channel is delivering several new originally scripted series including Touched by an Angel producer Martha Williamson's new "Signed, Sealed and Delivered" which debuts on April 20th. Brian Bird and Michael Landon, Jr., are the executive producers of "When Calls the Heart," This wonderful family friendly program recently aired the season 1 finale' and had an audience of over 2.5 million. The series is based on the Canadian West books by beloved Christian author Janette Oke.
Longtime MFI member David A.R. White's produces and stars in, GOD'S NOT DEAD, which continues to be strong at the box office.
GOD'S NOT DEAD is an entertaining, profound, powerful Christian movie about a college student who has to stand up for his faith when bullied by an atheist professor.
Hollywood producer of Survivor, Mark Burnett, along with his wife Roma Downey brought us The Bible Miniseries last Spring and recently released Son of God in theaters across the nation.
How can we respond?
If we want Hollywood to continue producing quality family friendly offerings, we need to support by praying, watching, attending. Have a viewing party at your home. Pray for God to prepare the hearts of your friends and loved ones to be open to discussions about the Bible after watching any of these thought provoking movies or television programs. It's been said that movies are not sermons or meant to preach, however they can be great opportunities to reach out.

2014 National Prayer Breakfast
Washington, D.C.
Each year I enjoy attending the National Prayer Breakfast in February, and hosting our MFI luncheon later in the day. It is always a wonderful time of catching up with our MFI members from across the nation.
This year our keynote speaker at our luncheon was producer, writer and director Derrick Warfel. He shared with us the importance of our faith as we are involved in the industry. Derrick is also passionate about the importance of good writing in a production, citing that many people focus on the visual but he says without good writing there is not good storytelling. We've shared some great news in the articles above about some of that good storytelling.

Coming up!
In the next few months, we'll be hosting another Chaplain's retreat and training weekend. We'll also be meeting with our Board of Directors for our annual meeting. Your prayers are appreciated for both events.

MFI Media Support Team in Action
Our MFI Media Support Team (MST) has always been an important arm of our ministry at MFI.
While those living in the Stillaguamish River Valley are known to be resilient and self sufficient, the sheer size of the disaster is hard to grasp.
In this brief interview with CBS Evening News, Pastor Bob explains the gravity of the tragedy.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

There is a phrase in the Lenten hymn, "In the Cross of Christ I Glory."
"Towering o'er the wrecks of time."
Christ is our only hope as we stand in the 'wrecks of time' and look for peace and comfort.
Sometimes the need for MFI's Media Support Team (MST) happens in our own backyard. That is the case with the disastrous Oso mudslide about 50 miles north of Seattle, between Arlington and Darrington, Washington. On Saturday morning, March 22, about 10:30, with families beginning their weekends together, the ground began to slide away under a whole mountainside community, slamming and twisting everything along with it. Cutting a mile-wide swath, the force of the slide twisted cars, demolished buildings and buried everything under 40 to 70 feet of mud. As of today, the death toll has risen to 34, 30 of whom have been identified. Twelve are still missing. READ MORE
Our MST has been on-site providing hospitality, encouragement, coffee and snacks for the Media covering the event. I have had the opportunity of meeting, visiting with and even praying with some of the news people. They have been very open with me and very appreciative that we are there for them. I have been asked a number of times to explain why we are here and expressing their appreciation for our efforts.
MFI's MST has been in the media room during the noon and 6:00pm press briefings and I was invited by CBS news crew to visit the actual site. The people of Oso, Darrington and Arlington need our ongoing prayers and support. As Easter approaches, we have reason to rejoice and share our hope in Christ with others.
When everything seems hopeless, the message of the cross towers over us. There is hope because Christ died for us and rose triumphant over sin, death and darkness. With a message like that, we who are Christians have a message of joy and hope that the world is desperate to hear. It should resound from every story we write, every message we speak.
But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, fas He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead." Matthew 28:5-6a NKJV
Thank you for your prayers, your concern and your financial support that make it possible for MFI to be available in times like these. In His love ,
Pastor Bob and Marion
