Fear is an emotion. It is a perception of how we see our circumstances. Whether our fear is rational or not, it hinders us from being and doing what God has intended for us to do.
1. Legitimate Fear
This kind of fear warns us against danger.
Common sense tells us to avoid precarious situations - don't play with fire, stay out of bad neighborhoods, don't get involved with unethical or immoral people, obey speed limits, etc.
Proverbs 22:3 "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it."
2. Fear of Getting Caught - GUILT
Guilt causes us to be afraid - and probably rightly so.
If our Conscience is doing its job, it will cause to be uneasy and fearful.
Fear of judgment - that of standing before God unforgiven - is a fear that should prompt us to action. Until we have made amends for our guiltiness, we continue to carry this fear.
Fear makes us suspect everyone and believe the worst.
3. Fear of failure
Perhaps we are putting too much faith in ourselves. We think it all depends on US. It is good to want the best and to put forth a valiant effort, but God never intended for mankind to do it on their own.
2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
Psalms 56:9-11 "On the very day I call to you for help, my enemies will retreat. This I know: God is on my side. O God, I praise your word. Yes, LORD, I praise your word. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?"
When we admit our failures, God steps into the gap,
but He waits for our invitation.
4. Fear of rejection - insecurity
Although we put on a smile and a confident manner, inwardly we know that we are only a step away from disappointment or failure. In ourselves we are insecure and unsure of ourselves. Praise God that we are not expected to do it by ourselves.
Psalms 37:3-5 "Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him."
Psalms 42:11 "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God."
Fear casts a long shadow.
5. FEAR GOD - He is my hope and my strength!
Courage is fear that has said its prayers.
Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Psalms 62:1-2 "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."
Be not afraid. Be strong and courageous. Fear not.
