New NCPC Directors Announced


NCPC announces the election of eight directors for three-year terms starting in February 2015 to the NCPC board. Below is a brief introduction of each newly-elected board member. To learn more about them you can click on their name.


District 1:  

Eddie Johnson returns to the board to serve a second term. Eddie farms in Elkin as the Double E Farms.


District 2:  

Robin Lackey has been elected to serve in District 2. She has been in agriculture most of her life. Robin's farm is Beaver Creek Farm located in Hurdle Mills.


District 6:

Jim Lynch has been elected to serve a second term. Jim is employed by Maxwell Foods, LLC and currently holds the position as the Sow Production Manager.


Dennis Waller returns to the board to serve a second term. Dennis owns and operates Waller Farms, Inc. in Mount Olive.


District 7:

Brian Kennedy was elected to serve his first term on the NCPC board. Brian and his family own and operate Cabin Farm and Potters Hill Farm. Brian is also a finishing production manager at Prestage Farms, Inc..


Louis Howard will also be serving his first term. Louis owns and runs Maple Run Farms, Inc. in Kenansville.


Stephen Williamson, Jr. returns to the board to serve a second term. Stephen farms in the Kenansville area with his family on Earth Right Farms, Inc..



Gene Nemechek has been elected to serve as the Associate representative. He is currently employed as a veterinarian with Zoetis. Gene has previously served on the NCPC board.

National Pork Board Names Chris Hodges as Chief Executive Officer


Chris Hodges, a pork industry leader with substantial senior management experience in agriculture, will join the National Pork Board as its new chief executive officer on Feb. 16. Currently based in Kansas City, Hodges is senior vice president - business development of Smithfield Farmland.

Lorenda Overman to Serve on AFB Women's Committee


Lorenda Overman was elected to serve a two-year term on the American Farm Bureau (AFB) Women's Leadership Committee by the members of the AFB Women's Leadership Program.  The elections occurred at the organization's annual meeting in San Diego, CA on January 12, 2015.


Lorenda currently serves as the chairperson of the NC Farm Bureau State Women's Committee and also on the NC Pork Council board of directors.

The 2015 NC Pork Conference is just around the corner and we hope to see you there!


Our educational seminars are scheduled for Thursday and will provide you with timely and important industry information. The annual meeting will close out our day at the fairgrounds on Thursday afternoon.


Thursday evening we move to the Marriott where we will host our members-only PAC event, the Bacon Bash. On Friday morning, we will recognize the 2015 NCPC award winners at the Annual Awards Breakfast.


All educational seminars and lunch on Friday are free to attend. However, we ask that you please pre-register, so we may plan accordingly.


There is a cost for both the Bacon Bash and awards breakfast so please visit our website to find out more and register for those events as well.


If you need hotel information, that is also available on our website. Remember, to take advantage of the discounted rate of $118, you must reserve your room by Friday, January 23rd and tell them you are with the NC Pork Council.


We have two great days of information and entertainment planned. Please make plans now to join us.

Pork Industry Scholarships


All juniors and seniors in college who plan to pursue a career in swine production management or a related field, or will be seeking to attend veterinary or graduate school and major in a discipline with an emphasis on swine, are invited to submit an application for one of 19 available scholarships sponsored by the Pork Checkoff.

The application submission form and all supporting materials must be received by the deadline date of February 17, 2015.

Initial Certification Training - Type A and Type B Animal Waste Management System Operator Certification:  Jan. 22-23, 2015 at the Bladen County CES in Elizabethtown. Contact Becky Spearman at 910-862-4591. Pre-registration is required and snow dates will be Jan. 29-30.
