REMINDER: Vocational Technical Education Survey due June 15, 2015!

The Coalition for Vocational Technical Education is a newly formed group of business groups, educators and community-based organizations across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Coalition formed in January 2015 with support from the SkillWorks Funders Group and several business, community and education partners to increase vocational technical education opportunities for students throughout the state, support training for skilled entry level employees for businesses across Massachusetts, recommend policies to reduce current waiting lists and increase capacity for high demand vocational technical education programs, promote vocational technical education as a pathway to college and career and improve resources for vocational technical education schools and programs.

The Coalition recently contracted with Northeastern University's Dukakis Center to design a survey of current and potential beneficiaries of vocational-technical educational programs in Massachusetts, including employers, school administrators, students, graduates and parents and the community at large.

Based on the survey results, the Dukakis Center will publish a report intended to help us better understand the current condition and potential of our state's vocational technical education system.

[Please note that, within the survey, if you want to return to a previous page, be sure to use the "prev" button at the bottom of each page, and not the upper left-hand corner back arrow.]

Please complete and distribute this electronic survey by June 15, 2015.  It will take about 7-10 minutes to complete.

Name Change: Mayor's Office of Workforce Development

Announcement from the Mayor's Office of Workforce Development:

Dear colleagues: During the past year, great care has been taken to realign the Office of Jobs and Community Services' focus to better reflect the administration's priorities. As the primary focus of the Office of Jobs and Community Services is now to develop competitive workforce development initiatives and policies to put Boston's youth and adults on a career path towards economic security, an office name change is in order to better describe the agency's focus on education and workforce development. While the office will continue to manage adult basic education, ESL and Hi-set related programs, the office now stresses the importance of collaboration with the City's workforce development and education initiatives, with an overall emphasis on career pathways to financial empowerment and economic security.

It is, therefore, that the Mayor's Office of Jobs and Community Services is being renamed the Office of Workforce Development.
