It's that time of year again - time to say thank you, hug those close to us, hug a few not close to us (ask permission first!) and try to make the world a little better. Of course, we should strive for these acts of kindness in our everyday actions, but there is something special about the holidays - even if it is 80-degrees here in Austin! 

A huge, heart-felt and humble THANK YOU to - our clients, partners, family and friends - we are truly blessed and grateful. I hope that we express this as a company in our large and small actions with you every day.


At Sentient Services our mission is to do good, do good work and have some fun along the way.

We strive for this through our choice of clients, employees and local community involvement (which we roughly mark as "the world"). At the end of each year, we choose a great charity to partner with to share our good fortune and honor you, our wonderful clients for your trust, friendship and support. We could not do this without you, so thank you again, very much!

This year we are supporting relief efforts in the Philippines - a place where I lived briefly as a child and have fond memories of beaches, jungle, Jeepneys and amazing, kind people. It is an amazing place, recently hit by the devastating typhoon Yolanda.

The Philippines is close to my heart - I lived there in middle school and met amazing people and saw the most beautiful jungle and beaches anywhere in the world. For a 7th grade boy there was no more wonderful place to explore, play, surf and hike.

  

Right now there is no more needed place for help and our money. Water, food and shelter are all desperately needed. We have partnered with Gawad Kalinga along with other donations directed at specific building projects. The Skoll Foundation and Focusing Philanthropy both recognize Gawad Kalinga as the recommended charity to get the most good done as quickly as possible in the Philippines.

This year a group from the research team headed to the Burke Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio to explore report writing. Fun? Actually they all said YES! They attended "Writing and Presenting Marketing Research Reports: Insights, Storytelling, and Data Visualization."

 

The 3-day course covered everything from the basics of preparing an audience to advanced visualization and data presentation skills. After a lovely time exploring Cincinnati, the big snow storm hit, and it was clear that the thin-skinned Texans had overstayed their welcome. After thawing, the team came back energized, with new skills and a passion to take customer insights and research reporting to the next level - so get ready for some awesome reporting! (Yes, we are sort of research nerds here:)
