Hi! Calit2 friends,
As another year draws to a close, it seems fitting to reflect on a few of our notable 2013 accomplishments.
Our multidisciplinary student research programs - SURF-IT and MDP - both continue to give students invaluable hands-on research experience. Participants in one MDP project gained international notoriety when their work took an unexpected turn. Now the program incorporates a bit of a twist. In addition to faculty-submitted proposals, students are invited to initiate projects. Twenty projects made the cut for winter quarter 2014; a full one-third were conceived and organized by the students themselves.
In our quest to continually promote entrepreneurship, Calit2 expanded its design, prototyping and proof-of-concept offerings this year. We expanded our technical staff and are pleased to offer academic and industry partners a host of services to fast-track their progress in early-phase, pilot projects.
Additionally, our BiON and LEXI facilities continue to add to their state-of-the-art clean room, microscopy and materials-characterization equipment; the CalPlug Center and eHealth Collaboratory continue to generate more partnerships and projects; and our TechPortal incubator welcomed four new startup companies.
All of us at Calit2 wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a happy, productive new year.
Cheers!
G.P. Li
