Tell Congress: In honor of Veterans Day, save tax credits received by our veterans
Indiana is home to more than 475,000 veterans. About 47,000 of our Hoosier veterans receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Child Tax Credit (CTC). The EITC and CTC are pro-work, pro-family tax policies that help families.

If Congress does not act, 256,000 Hoosiers, including about 25,000 Hoosier veterans, will lose all or part of the EITC or CTC. Married couples would face higher marriage penalties and cuts. Families with more than two children would face an EITC cut. Indiana would lose $264 million, directly impacting the pockets of workers and businesses.

Help us tell Congress that the time to act is now. Contact your member of Congress. Or contact us for a sample letter to the editor with local data in your newspaper. Or post the following to your social media accounts: Tell Congress to stand up for #WorkingAmericans and save the #EITC & CTC in honor of #veteransday http://bit.ly/1k2Azft or use this Veterans Day Social Media Guide.

Tools to evaluate Health Insurance
Most of us know that we can enroll through www.healthcare.gov. There are new tools to help consumers evaluate and understand different health insurance options.
Enroll America offers a plan explorer that allows an individual to view plans based on his/her needs without entering any identifying information. Link to the plan explorer through IN211.

The Indiana Department of Insurance lists the insurance carriers offering Marketplace plans by county as well as the cost changes from 2015 to 2016 by county. Note that the average second lowest cost Silver Plan decreased 12.6%. This was one of the largest cost decreases around!

Navigators are available to help individuals evaluate and understand plan options. Check out the IN211 map of Navigators

The Indiana Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA) provides Resources for Assisters, including a Training Calendar and mini-guides about each of the Qualified Health Plans (QHP), as available. IPHCA's resources are invaluable tools for service providers.

2-1-1 - Take Action
Find or post a health insurance enrollment event.
IN211 maintains a calendar of health insurance education and enrollment events. What happens at an outreach or enrollment event? Events range from a "health fair" atmosphere with many organizations, flu shots and other services to a quiet place for one-on-one interaction with Certified Navigators.

If your organization would like to host an event to educate and enroll your consumers in health insurance, Navigators may be available to come to you.

Or you may sign up for IN211's one-way text or e-tips:
  • For Consumers:  Text 4TIPS to 898211 (Standard message and data rates may apply)
  • For Providers: Text 4PROVIDERS to 85511 (Standard message and data rates may apply)

IN211 connects thousands of Hoosiers to healthcare
In addition to maintaining detailed information for consumers and providers alike, Indiana's 2-1-1 centers are pre-screening and referring callers to Navigators and healthcare options. Check out the new reports:  Caller Results and System Results from the IN211 Healthcare Project. IN211 reports show the range of referrals and other projects.

IaUW Public Policy
IaUW is a nonpartisan organization that works to advance policy principles and compromise solutions for the common good. We focus on policies that are aligned with the impact work in local communities conducted by our 61 United Ways and United Funds.
  • Education, so that children are prepared for and succeed in school;
  • Income/Financial Stability, so that individuals and families may achieve and sustain financial stability;
  • Health, so that individuals may access quality healthcare; and
  • Strong Communities, where a statewide 2-1-1 network and a strong charitable sector help communities thrive.
Our policy priorities are developed and guided by our Public Policy Committee and our IaUW membersbased on their work in Hoosier communities.

Review our public policy documents created during the 2015 session of the Indiana General Assembly, including fact sheets, testimony and bill summaries. See our quick summary based on IaUW priorities.
