Georgio Bassani in America

Giorgio Van Straten, (Italian Cultural Institute), Alessandro Cassin (Centro Primo Levi), Dalia Sofer (writer), Andrea Malaguti (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), and the writer's daughter, Paola Bassani.

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Giorgio Bassani's birth and of the publication of Giorgio Bassani, New York Lectures and Interviews, CPL Editions, 2016. During the 1960s and 1970s Giorgio Bassani spent considerable time in the United States, as president of the ecological association Italia Nostra, overseeing the translation of his works and most notably teaching at American colleges and universities. The lectures and interviews contained in the new volume published by CPL Editions in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the support of Fondazione Giorgio Bassani, were originally given at the Italian Cultural Institute on Park Avenue.

The Holocaust and United Nations Outreach Programme in partnership with the Centro Primo Levi New York presented a roundtable discussion titled "After the Holocaust - Primo Levi and the Nexus of Science, Responsibility and Humanism". 

The event took place on 4 May 2016 on the occasion of Yom HaShoah. After a reading of passages from Primo Levi's recently published Complete Works, a panel of scholars and writers explored themes found in Levi's writings including scientific ethics, history and memory, language and transmission, and justice and responsibility. The range of topics highlights Primo Levi's universal appeal and his humanistic legacy.
