PresmsgPresident's Message from the Award Winning Silicon Valley Black Chamber

Education 1 of the Big 3 E's

As many of you know, I've been chamber president for a little over 2 and a half years now and we've grown and been blessed tremendously. Much of our growth has come from our vision and desire to help create a "robust economically empowered African American community". What does that mean? It means a community with options.

3E's as options are:
1)      Option to become an Entrepreneur (that's our sweet spot)
2)      Option to be gainfully Employed (we help people get jobs)
3)      Option for good Education (must have this)

This article is about option #3 Education.

Although our core is helping people get into and being successful in business we know that if we don't look back into our education system we won't have future minority entrepreneurs. We therefore developed our own Next Generation Business Academy (the brain child of our previous president Joel Wyrick) that teaches business and financial literacy to low-to-moderate income youth on the east side of San Jose. (click here if you would like to teach a Next Gen class using Junior Achievement materials. It's Easy).

Today we're in the process of producing the Silicon Valley Black Youth hack-a-thon with partners like the United Negro College Fund and Black Enterprise to name a few, where young black minds get an opportunity to be the designer of games and apps, instead of just being a consumer of them. (click here for more info on hack-a-thon)

Our ASK is that we need YOU (your time, your talent, your resources (connections, relationships, influence, etc.)
