SV Black Chamber wins "Black Chamber of the Year award"

"I want to thank Aubry Stone and the California State Black Chamber of Commerce for honoring and recognizing the work we're doing here in Silicon Valley". This past Saturday night at the 20th Anniversary of the Ron Brown Summit, our chamber was awarded "Black Chamber of the Year" for the state of California.
This year's Ron Brown Summit featured 2 days of workshops and breakout sessions designed to teach you how to prepare and get contracts with "match making" opportunities right there. It also featured sessions on traditional and non-traditional ways to Access Capital along with branding and marketing ideas to take your business to the next level.
This year's summit actually had for the 2nd time a women's symposium as part of it; honoring black women in politics. Chamber business owners were invited and some attended. One of our members flew in all the way from Virginia to attend.
In just a little over 2 years we've been able to increase the membership from 34 members to 151 members. We've produced workshops and seminars that help businesses Start, Grow, Finance and even Exit their businesses for more profits. We've participated in providing our community with information so that they can properly enroll in the affordable health care program called Covered California and much much more.
If you're connected with our chamber, we hope you are proud to be a part of what the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce is doing, whether you're a large corporate sponsor, a small business owner, a local organization or even an individual looking to one day start a business, remember we're here to help you.
We're grateful and humble and know that there is much more to do and that we can do to help you become more successful in business. As I was receiving the award I heard something whispered in my ear "You haven't done anything yet, but I like your trend line".

Jill Young, President and Owner of JC Young Construction, is one of the chamber's most successful General Contractors.
Shortly after becoming a member, she was exposed to numerous business and networking opportunities.
Jill is now state and government certified. She currently holds the following certifications; EDWOSB, MOSB, MBE, WBE, SB, and LGBTE.
Jill has recently been in talks with a producer who pitched HGTV on a home improvement show involving women in construction. They are very interested in her story and loved her personality. HGTV has contacted Jill and is in the process of trying to put a pilot together.

Black Legend Awards Ceremony - Article

Come celebrate the induction of 20 Black Pioneers into the Black Legends Hall of Fame - Silicon Valley. This is a Black-Tie Red Carpet event.
We'll recognize and honor our Black Pioneers and share their contributions to the community also talk about African American History here in the Silicon Valley.
The Inaugural Black Legend Awards - Silicon Valley Ceremony will be held on September 12, 2015, at the Parkside Hall of the San Jose Convention Center. This is the official launch of fundraising for The Black History Museum - Silicon Valley.
Ticket Price: $150.00 each.
Ticket(s) can be purchased at Black Legend Awards website: http://www.blacklegendawards.org/, at the office of African American Community Service Agency, Inc. or at the office of the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce. The Importance of "Staying Connected"
We believe that our newsletter helps YOU stay connected to important news and information about the San Jose and surrounding business community affairs.
We also cover issues that pertain to the Silicon Valley, state and national black community across the nation.
