The President's Message
"What is an eMobile Directory and eBusiness Card?"
The Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce is leading the initiative to go mobile and promote doing business using smart devices. Recently, this past Saturday June 28th, we promoted a Google Community business day which was comprised of 3 hrs of hands on training and consultative work by the Google folks who are interested in helping businesses grow. This is a part of the start of us learning how to do business using smart devices. Of all the places in the nation we, Silicon Valley, have to step up and start using some of the products this valley produces. And not just for use sake but to be more productive, efficient and in the end more profitable.
I'm taking the time to share 2 of the most important parts of the NEW communication platform the chamber will have in a few weeks.
1) The Mobile Directory - A directory in the cloud that is current with information you want people to see about YOUR business. No excuses, you update all your info and are responsible for it. You move, you change your address. You want something different said about your business, you make the change. This region, this state, the world will be able to see your business through our chamber mobile directory.
2) eBusiness Card - Imagine a little commercial about your business, residing on all your customers, all your prospects, all your contacts phones and tablets, promoting your eBusiness. Imagine it just being stored there for their use when they see fit. Get ready because in 1 month I'll send you my chamber eBusiness Card as the chamber president promoting our chamber. Remember, you will get the eBusiness card for free, but how you use it will determine how many people you connect with for your business. There will be an ePromotional Card where you can promote a specific event, product etc. You can also have, for Free, a discount Card offering different discounts to your customers.
Want to learn more?
Contact the chamber at (408) 288-8806 and leave your name, business name and Mobile Number. You will receive a text with instructions on how to get the Chamber App.

Breathing New Life Into An Iconic Cultural Tradition
Blues, Brews & BBQ at Monterey Bay
For nearly 30 years, the Monterey Blues Festival has entertained people from all over the world with its soulful sounds and comfort food. The event reached iconic status bringing together new and old generations of blues aficionados to appreciate the American tradition in beautiful Monterey Bay. Still, the event gave way to budgetary constraints two years ago.Creative Chaos Communications talked with Rusty Jackson, CEO of SASCO Sight & Sound Company, who is in the process of reviving the unprecedented celebration of the blues heritage.
Why did you feel it was important to revive this beautiful American tradition?
Rusty: I have a deep appreciation for blues music. I grew up listening to Albert & BB King, Joe Williams, Etta James and Ray Charles. So I felt like a part of my culture was slipping away and I wanted to be able to hold on to a significant piece of our heritage.
What part do you play in the new event,
Blues, Brews and BBQ at Monterey Bay?
Rusty: My company SASCO Sight & Sound is producing the event, handling the marketing and media relations. We hope to make this an entrancing experience by delivering state-of-the-art sound and staging for our talent and visitors.
How will you do things differently?
Rusty: Ultimately, the buck stops with me. We are requesting feedback from the festival attendees. We value their opinion. Our success depends on the event experience for the attendees. If paying attendees don't enjoy the event, we fail. In order to provide quality entertainment at affordable prices, we need to hear from the audience so that we can continuously improve and succeed in providing a great experience. We're committed to that.
There's an entire network of people that help bring this together. But I hope to also bring back more of the "true blues" music for a new generation to appreciate. We've got some great talent booked including Teri Odabi, Kenny Neal and Memphis Gold.
Talk about some of the challenges for an event of this magnitude.
Rusty: It's not easy to raise money, that's for sure. But we've been working with The Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce for support and of course, the Monterey Chamber of Commerce - they have been phenomenal in helping us get more involved with the local community so that we can offer shopping and dining discounts. We've also been able to acquire a sponsorship with the Post Newspaper Group and a significant partnership with KJAZZ (88.1FM), an LA-based radio station with the longest running blues show in California.
What are some of the opportunities you've taken advantage of?
Rusty: Professionally, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with some really great people who not only care about the event, but also understand the place blues music has in our history. Personally, we made this event a family affair and got our boys involved. My son Rusty not only did many of the graphics, but he provided all of the post-production for our TV ads. My son Randall will be working on the mixing board. It's truly a rewarding experience to help my children understand a big part of their culture by participating.
How has the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce supported your undertaking?
Rusty: The Chamber is a vehicle that promotes Black-owned businesses. There is strength in unity, support and encouragement and membership is vital for any business. The opportunity to share with and learn from the Chamber is also an ingredient for success.
How do you envision the future of this event?
Rusty: Well, I hope this becomes the best blues festival in the world. I would like it to be known for renowned performers as well as the exceptional quality of the food and drinks. At the end of the event, I want people to ask when they can order tickets for next year!
Blues, Brews and BBQ at Monterey Bay will be held on July 26th & 27th at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
