  Spotlight
Profile Spotlight on William Wheat
CEO, Silicon Valley Grant Writers
Consultant, Next Generation Business Academy

As the CEO of Silicon Valley Grant Writers, when did you begin your venture and what types of clients do you serve?

We are in the start-up phase of our company and gained a burst of growth in 2013. Our work is focused on organizations who assist families, children and the underserved population. We have access to grants resources for small business and nonprofits, and to date, we have secured over $950,000 for our clients. Contact us for a 15 minute consultation meeting at the Chamber. Email: siliconvalleygrantwriters@gmail.com or call 408-476-9901.

How long have you been in the South Bay area and in association with the SVBCC?

I moved to San Jose in 2001 and became a member of the SVBCC in 2004.

Give an example of an important issue are you currently undertaking?

The issue we are confronted with at this moment is adequate funding for the program, to reach 300 youth annually. It is an effort to write as many grants, solicit corporate and community partners, and envision where Next Generation Business Academy should be in 5 years.  Our goal in these efforts is to ensure that the program has meaningful impact on the lives of youth and prepare them in becoming tomorrow's giants of industry.

Talk about the 2013 award you received through the SVBCC for your work with NGP.

I was pleased to be awarded with a plaque in acknowledgement of my work by the Board of Trustees at East Side Union High School District. That was a great compliment to my history as a middle school and high school teacher in California.

Have any former students of the NGP initialized their own business?

Yes, I've coached many former students and I found it particularly interesting when a start-up group came to utilize office space at the Chamber and ultimately found their business expansion exceeded what we had available.
