Joni's Story

Joni. A success story.

Several years ago, Joni, a single mother, received a large tax refund through a free tax preparation program run by United Way serving low-income families in Snohomish County.

The refund allowed Joni to support her family, and for the first time, give back to the community. Joni gave a percentage of the refund to her church, and has continued to give back.

"My life has changed so significantly since the tax refund. For the first time, it gave me the means to give back to the community, which changed my outlook on life, my career and my family."

Campaign Update

In early September, new campaign executives joined our team and began preparing for another successful campaign. We're really looking forward to Community Transit's campaign, led by CEO and United Way's 2012 Campaign Chair Joyce Eleanor.

At a recent meeting, Union leaders from ATU 1576 and IAM & AW Local 130, and Community Transit shop stewards learned more about United Way's impact in the community. Union and non-union staff are looking forward to "Getting on Board" and working together this year. We can't wait to see the results!
Members of Youth United's Teen Leadership Council at a Planning Meeting.Youth United's Teen Leadership Council (TLC) members learn about the work of local nonprofit agencies and create service projects to address needs in the community. At the first TLC meetings, Snohomish County teens set the council's policies and calendar. Members will also learn how to recruit and manage volunteers and will design volunteer projects in the spring.
