Principal's Message
Thank you for all of your support in having your child to school on-time and well prepared during our state testing over the past few weeks.  Next week we will be having students who did miss any days doing their make ups throughout the school day.  Also, 8th graders only will be doing STAR Testing in science during their typical science period.  The science STAR testing will be Monday - Wednesday, May 4th - 6th.

Have a fantastic week.

President's Message
Last Wednesday night, the PTA was able to honor some incredibly special individuals through our Honorary Service Awards Program.  It was a lovely evening, coordinated by WCI PTA Historian Aimee Moss - thank you again, Aimee!  We who attended felt inspired by the wonderful honorees who have truly gone the extra mile to benefit the students of WCI.  Thank you to all of you who truly make a difference in our community.

Our final PTA meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, May 20th at 9:30am in the Library.  Coffee and treats will be served at 9:00 and the first half of the meeting dedicated to a discussion of issues for incoming 6th grade parents.  The second half will be to conduct our normal PTA business.  All are welcome to attend.  Click here to see the agenda.

Civil War Day 2015

Friday, May 29th is Civil War Day, a great half day event where students experience a little of what it was like to be a soldier during the Civil War.  Students construct a tent camp, write letters home, play games, march, drill, and participate in a mock battle.  This is a memorable event, and one that requires a lot of parent volunteers...and that's where you come in!

We need volunteers to do the following:

Tuesday May19th

Ammo makers:  From 6:00p to 7:00p in the cafeteria, we need both parents and students to help make thousands of flour balls that the students will use in their "battle".  We will also need a few volunteers to help clean up all the flour.

Friday, May 29th

Morning Set-Up Crew:  Come by school before work and help create the "battlefield".

Referees:  Stand on the field and make sure students are following the guidelines of fair play.

Aid Station/Hospital Worker:  Help students get back onto the field once they're hit with flour.  Wipe away flour and mark each student with a tape "bandage".

Water Station Worker:  Be an essential part of the day by handing out water to the tired warriors after each battle.

Bakers: Keep our troops supplied with energy by baking 2 dozen cookies. Please drop off in the morning before the battles begin.

Clean Up Crew:  Stay afterward and help students and teachers as they quickly put everything away.

All volunteers working at Civil War Days on May 29th should plan on attending a training session on Wednesday May 13th at 7:00p in Room 207 so you understand your job.

If you are interested in helping with any of these jobs, please go to our Sign Up Genius website to sign up. Civil War Sign Up Genius.

Bakers sign up here: Civil War Sign Up Genius Bakers.

If you have questions about any of the volunteer jobs, you can also contact Shelly Wells at wells5@sbcglobal.net.  Thanks for your help in making Civil War Day a great learning experience.

Help Needed for 8th Grade Party
This is the first of many asks for help to make the 8th grade promotion activities a success.  If you can paint, this is the job for you!   We need someone to paint some decorations for the events.  This would involve picking up all supplies and painting the items (at your home) and returning the painted items to Barbara Snoderly.  If you are interested please contact Barbara at barbarasnoderly@yahoo.com.  Thanks in advance, and watch for future help needed.
Staff Climate Committee
WCI has a staff climate committee that meets monthly.  One of the goals set by this committee was to foster healthy communication and relationships with our parent community.  To this end, we have developed a survey to collect feedback from parents about various aspects of our school.  Please click the link below to enter the survey.  If your responses vary significantly depending on multiple children attending our school, please submit one entry for each child.
