Friday, May 29th is Civil War Day, a great half day event where students experience a little of what it was like to be a soldier during the Civil War. Students construct a tent camp, write letters home, play games, march, drill, and participate in a mock battle. This is a memorable event, and one that requires a lot of parent volunteers...and that's where you come in!
We need volunteers to do the following:
Tuesday May19th
Ammo makers: From 6:00p to 7:00p in the cafeteria, we need both parents and students to help make thousands of flour balls that the students will use in their "battle". We will also need a few volunteers to help clean up all the flour.
Friday, May 29th
Morning Set-Up Crew: Come by school before work and help create the "battlefield".
Referees: Stand on the field and make sure students are following the guidelines of fair play.
Aid Station/Hospital Worker: Help students get back onto the field once they're hit with flour. Wipe away flour and mark each student with a tape "bandage".
Water Station Worker: Be an essential part of the day by handing out water to the tired warriors after each battle.
Bakers: Keep our troops supplied with energy by baking 2 dozen cookies. Please drop off in the morning before the battles begin.
Clean Up Crew: Stay afterward and help students and teachers as they quickly put everything away.
All volunteers working at Civil War Days on May 29th should plan on attending a training session on Wednesday May 13th at 7:00p in Room 207 so you understand your job.
