Principal's Message
This Friday the 27th is the end of the third quarter and we will be having a half day with a release time of 12:47 pm.  We will be having spring break right after this from March 30th - April 3rd with students returning on April 6th.  With the end of the quarter and students having a week off, it is a great time to encourage them to get off to a great start in the 4th quarter and finish the year strong.

I hope everyone has a relaxing, fun and safe spring break.

Sixth and seventh grade students interested in accelerating in Math next year must take a placement exam to determine their eligibility for the compacted course.  This exam is one component used to determine a student's placement in Math.  We will administer the assessment from 8:00  - 9:15am on Wednesday April 15, 22, and 29.  Your student will need to be present for two of these sessions to finish all parts of the assessment. Please use the link below to sign up.

Musical Corner
The WCI Jazzers have been selected to perform at the 11th Annual Next Generation Jazz Festival Presented by Monterey Jazz Festival, this weekend, March 27-29, 2015.  More than 1200 students participate each year in the Next Generation Jazz Festival. This year, 62 groups from seven states and British Columbia are finalists in the adjudicated categories.
The WCI Jazzers are one of six middle school jazz bands to have been selected to perform in the Middle School Division.

Rita Zigas-Brown has this to say about the upcoming Next Gen Festival: "I am so proud of my students for working as hard as they have this year.  We are all excited and grateful to have the opportunity to perform at a new venue as 1 of 6 finalists in the MS division.  We feel fortunate to have earned a place at such a prestigious festival with so many other amazing school groups."
Library Help
WCI Library is looking for a parent volunteer for Friday mornings 8:30a-10:45a. Duties include checking in and checking out books, shelving books and magazines, assisting students to locate books, and keeping the library and computer lab neat. Best of all you will get to interact with the students and teachers. If you are available, please contact Joan Anderton in the Library during school hours, or via email at [email protected]
Boxtops for Education
What about an Easter basket filled with box top coupons?  Well, don't think the kids would like that!  An alternative? Over the Spring break, please collect all those "goodies" so that the box top receptacle in the library will be overflowing, not with candy and eggs, but with lots of those SMALL box top coupons .  A low calorie Easter treat = more money for our library!  As always, Anne Woods at [email protected] thanks everyone for their continuing support on behalf of the WCI library.  Enjoy the Spring break!
8th Grade Panoramic Picture
The 8th Grade Panoramic Picture will be taken on April 23rd.  Purchase your photo now (all 8th graders received a flyer this week in History class, and there are more in the Attendance Office if needed).  If you would like to purchase a panoramic picture, the flyer must be filled out and be accompanied by cash, money order, or check payable to Walnut Creek Intermediate (and turned into the Attendance Office by April 17th).   Cost of the photo is $22, or $42 for a framed photo.  If you have questions, please contact Mr. Miller at [email protected]
