Principal's Message | Tonight, March 4th, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, in the WCI library, we will be hosting a Math Information Parent Meeting. Curriculum director, Lisa Cheney, WCI math teachers and administrators will describe the math pathways available at WCI. Along with an explanation of the criteria for students to enter the accelerated pathway we will also share options for students to transition to the math pathways at Las Lomas High School. Hope to see you there.
Also, our 7th/8th grade dance is this Friday from 6:30-8:30 in the gym. Please make sure your student has turned in a permission slip and that you are on time for pick-up at the gym if they attend the dance.

President's Message | Our next PTA meeting will be two weeks from tonight, Wednesday, March 18th at 7:00pm in the Library. This is a very important meeting as we'll be electing the new PTA Exec. Board for the 2015-16 school year. Additionally, we will be approving the mid-year audit and discussing the many upcoming spring/end-of-year events at WCI. Click here to see the agenda. 3rd Vice President - PTA Programs is responsible for finding chairs for Membership, Parent Education, Parent/Student Survey and Reflections.
4th Vice President - Ways and Means - this positions finds chairs for eScrip, Spiritwear, Magazine Sales and the Fall Social.

Work Shop for 6th-8th Grade Girls
|
Contra Costa County Office of Education has partnered with Diablo Valley College to host for the 2015 Expanding Your Horizons (EYH). This year's event will be held at Diablo Valley College on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. Students will participate in hands-on STEM activities, engage with STEM professionals and receive a EYH goodie bag, including a STEM kit. A snack and lunch will be provided for all participants. Registration opens on March 2, 2015. There will be a program for parents on preparing their daughters for success and financing college. Calling All 7th & 8th Grade Parents

The final 7th and 8th grade dance of this school year is this Friday, March 6th. The fun is scheduled for 6:30pm-8:30pm. We still in need of people to donate snacks for the dancers. 6th Grade Skate Night
|
The 6th Grade Skate Night is Tuesday, March 24th. Skate Night will be at The Golden Skate in San Ramon. Your 6th grader will not want to miss this event! Tickets will be sold during lunch periods on Monday, March 23rd and Tuesday March 24th. The cost of the ticket is $13.00. Your student will need to bring CASH to purchase their ticket and a completed, signed permission slip. A flyer will be distributed to all 6th graders which has more details on the event, along with the permission slip. Stay tuned for more information!

WCI Bookfair Coming Soon

THE WCI BOOK FAIR IS FAST APPROACHING. Mark your calendars for our wonderful WCI Book Fair. Browse the teachers' Wish List for stocking up books in classrooms or at your home. The Book Fair is held in conjunction with Real Books and raises funds for WCI Library which receives 20% of the proceeds.
Here is the schedule:

Creek Kids Care
|
The WCI branch of Creek Kids Care will meet on March 11 at 8:30 am in room 305 (Ms. Stewart's classroom). All WCI kids are encouraged to participate in this fun and worthwhile club. Creek Kids Care is a local nonprofit of kids and teens working together to benefit
the Trinity Center (serving our local homeless community) and the Mother of Peace orphanage in Zimbabwe. Details about the organization can be found at www.creekkids.org. In addition to the March 11 meeting, the club will meet on these dates:

Youth Ambassador Exchange 2015

Applications Open for Seventh Graders
Ready to learn about the world and make new friends? Join the Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE!!) and travel to one of Walnut Creek's sister cities of Noceto, Italy or Siofok, Hungary this fall!
Applications are now open for seventh grade students to apply for the 2015-2016 exchange. To be eligible, students must be entering eighth grade in fall 2015, reside in Walnut Creek and have a 3.0 GPA or above.
Ambassadors will spend time learning about the language and culture of their host country. In October, they will enjoy a week staying with an Italian or Hungarian student, visiting their schools, the local area and nearby larger cities. In Spring 2016, the ambassadors will host the Italian and Hungarian students here in Walnut Creek to share what is great about the Bay Area.

2015 WCI Coed Golf
|
Open to 7th & 8th grade boys and girls
This is a competitive program and is not structured for the beginner. Players must have experience playing on a golf course; have their own clubs, golf shoes. Collared shirts must be worn, no t-shirts.
Registration is from
February 2nd through February 27th.
Season: March-May
Commitment: 2-3 days per week.
Schedule: Mon-Thurs, time TBD
Tryouts: March 3rd and March 5th

Participants pay green fees of $10.00 for tryouts
Participants must play both days of tryouts. Tryout green fees ( separate payment
will be collected along with the registration fee and form. Tryouts will be necessary if more than 12 participants sign up. First practice: March 10.

Las Lomas Cheerleading
|
The Las Lomas High School cheerleaders will be visiting on Tuesday, March 10th during both lunches. The cheerleaders will be handing out information packets to those interested.

6th Grade Students TDAP Requirements
|
All 6th grade students will need to show proof of having received Tdap (pertussis) vaccination after the age of seven before they enter seventh grade. We are now starting to collect this information from all 6th grade students. We are asking all 6th families to provide written verification of Tdap as soon as possible.

The WCI PTA publishes the eNewsletter every Wednesday. Our goal is to provide information to the WCI community in a timely manner. If you have an article to contribute email it to Susan Heitmann at wcienews@yahoo.com. Please limit articles to 150 words or less. The deadline is every Sunday at 6pm.
