Principal's Message | Congratulations to our WCI Jazz Band who has been performing in numerous weekend competitions. They have received multiple team and individual awards in these competitions where they have displayed the hard work they have put in all year.
As a reminder, the Las Lomas Open House is tomorrow night, February 5th beginning at 5:30 in the Las Lomas gym. Student registration packets are due back Monday, February 9th to their 8th grade English teacher.

Las Lomas seeking Parent Advisor's for the Class of 2019!

Attention 8th Grade Parents!
We are looking for 5 to 6 parents to become Parent Advisors for next year's incoming freshman class. Parent Advisors guide the student leadership throughout their 4 years at Las Lomas by providing supervision, coordinating and assisting with various fun class and fundraising activities. Interested? We will be having a meeting on Thursday, February 24th, 7pm at Las Lomas in the Leadership Classroom (Rm. 201) where we will be providing more detailed information on Parent Advising and applications for those interested. Urgent! Volunteeers Needed for Vision and Hearing Screenings

Vision Testing for new students and 6th graders who missed the earlier screening will take place tomorrow, Thursday, February 5th. We have an URGENT need for three volunteers to assist with this important task. If you can help, please sign up at here.
Hearing screening for all 8th graders will also be taking place soon, on Monday, February 23rd, Tuesday, February 24th and Thursday, February 26th. The final 7th and 8th grade dance of this school year is near. It is Friday March 6th, the fun is scheduled for 6:30pm-8:30pm. We need lots of help to make this dance a success. WCI is doing a food drive for the Contra Costa County food bank from February 1-11. Your students will receive a handout with details in their SSR class by Friday 1/30. Do you know someone who has gone the extra mile for the WCI community this year? If so, it's time to nominate that person for an Honorary Service Award! PTA Honorary Service Awards recognize those members of our school community who really make a difference in the lives of the students at WCI. If you know of a parent, teacher, staff member, or other community member who regularly goes above and beyond, they deserve this recognition. Either complete a nomination form and return it to the school's main office, or simply email PTA Historian Aimee Moss at aimeemoss14@gmail.com with your nomination. Library Volunteer Needed

WCI Library is looking for a parent volunteer for Friday mornings 8:30a-10:45a. Duties include checking in and checking out books, shelving books and magazines, assisting students to locate books, and keeping the library and computer lab neat. Our Jazz Band has been very busy since December performing at various regional Jazz Festivals. The band earned 3rd place at the Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton on December 6, a Unanimous Superior rating at the San Ramon Valley High School Invitational Jazz Festival in Danville on December 13, a Unanimous Superior at the CMEA Jazz East Festival at Northgate HS on January 16 and 3rdplace at the Folsom Jazz Festival in Folsom on January 24! Students having earned one or more Outstanding Musicianship Awards are: Breanna K. on baritone saxophone and clarinet, Evan S. on bass, Robby U. on alto saxophone, Marcello P-C. on alto saxophone, Max C. on tenor saxophone, Grant H. on trombone, Soren B. on piano and Vanessa B. on drums. The Jazz Band is next headed to the Campana Jazz Festival in Pleasanton on February 14 and the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival in March. Congratulations on your success so far and Good Luck with upcoming events.

* The need for blood remains dire. I know you hear this frequently, and certainly do the BEST you can to give WHEN you can, but just sayin' - we're making this super easy, the bus comes right to the WALNUT HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY PARKING LOT on February 20th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. Please consider!
* To emphasize the easy: you needn't bother with the signup/login on the Red Cross website, I'll do the legwork! Just e-mail your preferred phone contact and desired appointment time, that's all I need. You'll promptly get confirmations from me AND the Red Cross. = )

Youth Ambassador Exchange 2015

Applications Open for Seventh Graders
Ready to learn about the world and make new friends? Join the Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE!!) and travel to one of Walnut Creek's sister cities of Noceto, Italy or Siofok, Hungary this fall!
Applications are now open for seventh grade students to apply for the 2015-2016 exchange. To be eligible, students must be entering eighth grade in fall 2015, reside in Walnut Creek and have a 3.0 GPA or above.
Ambassadors will spend time learning about the language and culture of their host country. In October, they will enjoy a week staying with an Italian or Hungarian student, visiting their schools, the local area and nearby larger cities. In Spring 2016, the ambassadors will host the Italian and Hungarian students here in Walnut Creek to share what is great about the Bay Area.

2015 WCI Coed Golf

Open to 7th & 8th grade boys and girls
This is a competitive program and is not structured for the beginner. Players must have experience playing on a golf course; have their own clubs, golf shoes. Collared shirts must be worn, no t-shirts.
Registration is from
February 2nd through February 27th.
Season: March-May
Commitment: 2-3 days per week.
Schedule: Mon-Thurs, time TBD
Tryouts: March 3rd and March 5th

Participants pay green fees of $10.00 for tryouts
Participants must play both days of tryouts. Tryout green fees ( separate payment

6th Grade Students TDAP Requirements
|
All 6th grade students will need to show proof of having received Tdap (pertussis) vaccination after the age of seven before they enter seventh grade. We are now starting to collect this information from all 6th grade students. We are asking all 6th families to provide written verification of Tdap as soon as possible.

The Annual Las Lomas Rummage Sale is coming!
Every year, the sophomore class of Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek hosts the rummage sale to end all rummage sales. This year's spectacular event will benefit the Class of 2017, as well as hundreds of people in our community and beyond. Here's what you need to know.....
Clean out your clutter and drop it off at Las Lomas High School, back entrance behind Whole Foods. Drop off donations every Saturday: January 31 - March 21 (or until we reach capacity), from 10am-2pm (no collection on February 14).
Items may not be donated outside of the scheduled dates and times. The school office cannot accept any items at any time.
