Principal's Message
On Saturday, September 27th WCI will be part of the Walnut Creek Community Clean Up Day.  Work will begin at 9 am and will last at least two hours.  Along with this day, we have two others throughout the school year that give everyone who is a part of WCI an opportunity to tidy up the campus.  It is a great opportunity for the family to come and take part with the staff in making our campus look great.  Even if you do not sign up on line, you can still come that day.

I also want to thank you again for all of your support with the magazine, tote bag, etc. fund raiser.  We have our second turn in day on Wednesday, September 24th in the MU from 8:30 - 9:25.  There will also be a final turn in day on October 1st.

Have a wonderful week.

Mike Cannon
President's Message
Thank you so much to all of you who were able to come to this morning's PTA meeting.  As I mentioned at this morning's meeting, I am very excited that the WCI PTA will be hosting a Candidate Forum for the five people running for WCSD school board this year.  The forum will be held here at the WCI Library on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00pm.  This is a great way to learn more about the people running for these important elected positions.  This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley.  Please mark your calendars for this informative event!

As always, if you have any questions about anything you see in my weekly President's Message or anything about the WCI PTA, please don't hesitate to contact me at jagibson@astound.net. Have a great week!

Julie Gibson, WCI PTA President

Health & Safety Coordinator Needed
A volunteer is needed to coordinate healthy/safety screenings that are done at WCI.  There are approximately 3 screenings per school year (example is hearing testing).  You would work with school administrators and school nurse to get volunteers to make these screening/testing go well.  If you can do this important position, please contact Cathy Mauger or call 330-6997.  Feel free to contact me for additional information if needed.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Boxtops for Education
A big welcome to the sixth grade students and their parents!  Now that your child is at WCI, you may be wondering what to do with all those Box Top coupons. Please keep collecting them, and just have your child drop them off in the library.  There is a Box Top receptacle on the counter just waiting to be filled!  All the monies earned buys new books for our wonderful library - what a great way to start another school year!  There will be another Box Top contest with Target gift cards for the three students who turn in the most box top coupons!  The contest will run from Monday, September 15, through Friday, October 24.  The contest rules will be posted in the library next to the Box Top receptacle.  Our goal is to collect LOTS of box top coupons - and we can do that with your help! If there are any questions, please contact Anne at shepwoods@comcast.net.  And, of course, a big thank you to all the students (and their parents!) for their continuing support on behalf of the WCI library.
