Dear WCI Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the first weeks of summer.
In summer shopping and looking at school clothes for next year, I wanted to attach our revised WCI dress code. We revised this handbook policy at the end of the school year, and I hope this serves as a good guideline to what will be allowed at WCI.
DRESS
The purpose of a school dress code is to encourage students to "dress for success" by coming to school in attire that is appropriate and conducive to an orderly learning environment. In keeping with a commitment to the health and safety of all students the following rules will apply. Some middle school rules may be more stringent than elementary due to age appropriateness.
· No sunglasses may be worn on in the classroom (unless for medical reasons). A student should bring a note from the doctor to the office to obtain a waiver.
· No clothing with obscene language or symbols, suggestive sexual statements, or statements that depict violence or putdowns, or slogans addressing drugs, cigarettes or alcohol.
· No wearing, carrying, or displaying of slogans, initials, colors, bandanas or attire that advocates gang participation.
· No strapless tops or low cut tops, spaghetti strap tanks, or clothing that exposes bare-midriff, undergarments, or straps.
· Skirt and shorts length must be at thumb length with arms held at sides.
· Mesh or see-through tops must be worn with an opaque undershirt that covers the entire midriff.
· Clothing should be in a good state of repair, i.e., garments with tears, or holes that expose the skin beneath are not permitted.
· Outfits which show, or appear to show undergarments are not permitted.
· Sagging pants are not allowed.
· A safety dress code will be followed for students in home economics, PE and science classes.
Students in violation of the WCI Dress Code will be required to change into alternate clothes.
Thank you for your support with our dress code. Have a wonderful, safe summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in August.
Sincerely,
|
