President's Message | Well, it is finally upon us - the last few days of school! It's a crazy, fun, busy time for everyone and I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of the parents who have given their time this week, and last, to support the grade-level end-of-year activities. Yesterday, we hosted Greco-Roman, Byzantine Bazaar, and the 8th grade picnic - none of which would have happened without the over 125 combined volunteers who showed up to help with these events. Add to that the other activities that our kids have gotten to participate in this year - skate nights, dances, Japan Days, 8th grade party - and we truly see that without the fabulous families we have here at WCI, the experience our students have would not be nearly as memorable.
Thank you to all of you who have stepped up and helped this year - we couldn't do it without you. Have a great summer!

Las Lomas Student Receives Michael W. De Sa Memorial Scholarship
The eighth annual Michael W. De Sa Memorial Scholarship administered by the Walnut Creek Education Foundation, was awarded in the amount of $2,000 to Las Lomas High school senior, Jordan Menkes. The scholarship was presented to Jordan by Lisa and Sam De Sa during Las Lomas High School Senior Awards Night held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
Jordan was chosen from among sixteen Las Lomas seniors who applied for the scholarship, named after the Walnut Creek School District Superintendent who passed away in 2006. His achievements exemplify the scholarship criterion, which seeks a well-rounded graduate of the Walnut Creek schools (attending K-12) who has nurtured life's passions both in school and outside the confines of academia, through service in the community and other pursuits. Read more about Jordan Menkes and the De Sa Scholarship.

Boxtops for Education
| Over the summer vacation, please continue to cut out those little Box Top coupons. Then, try and remember where you put them so that your child can drop them off in the library during the first week of school. A full box top receptacle at the beginning of the school year means more money for our library! As in the past, we will have another contest in September with more gift cards for the three students who turn in the most box tops - another incentive to save them! Anne Woods at shepwoods@comcast.net thanks everyone again for their support on behalf of the library. Have a wonderful summer! |
