Principal's Message
Fourth quarter brings a lot of end of the year activities so please make sure to read e-news carefully and check the activity calendar on our website.  This week there will ROPES judging on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings at WCI beginning at 6 pm.  Next Tuesday evening we will having the spring concert in our gym beginning at 7 pm.

We are looking for students to get off to a great start in the 4th quarter and finish the year strong.  Have a wonderful week.
President's Message
We invite you to join us one week from tonight at our annual Founder's Night where we will honor some of the many volunteers and staff that make WCI a special place for our children.  Our celebration begins at 7:00pm in the library and all are welcome.  Please note that this celebration will be in place of our monthly PTA meeting. 

Please take a few minutes to read all of the important articles below so you are "in the know" about what is going on around WCI and our community.

The clock is ticking and $3.9 million annually for our local high schools is at stake!  Only 3 1/2 weeks left until Election Day, Tuesday, May 6.

Share your Passion:WCEF  Board Nominations/Volunteer Information

The WCEF Nominating Committee is currently looking for volunteers for the 2014-15 school year. There are opportunities in all shapes and sizes. We would love to hear how your passion could benefit WCEF and our students! We have a board opening for the Secretary position. Board meeting are held on the fourth Thursday of each month in the evening. 8th Grade Panoramic Picture
The 8th grade panoramic picture will be taken on Thursday April 24th during SSR.  All 8th grade students received a form explaining how to purchase the photo in their English class this week.  Please return the completed form and payment to the Attendance Office at WCI by April 24th if you wish to purchase a picture. 
Spring Pictures
Spring picture day is coming April 17th!  All students will take a photo during their PE period on Thursday, April 17th.  There is no pre-ordering for these pictures.  If you would like to receive ordering information via email, please email [email protected] with your student's name and school.  If you do not sign up through email, proofs will be mailed home with an option to purchase or return via the mail.  PLEASE NOTE:  The photos will be taken on a green screen; please do not wear green on photo day.
Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in volunteering this summer?

From now until May 28, the Walnut Creek Library will be accepting volunteer applications for this year's Summer Reading Program.

 

Help promote the magic of reading to children, teens, and adults. Gain experience for college applications and future employment. Stop by the library to pick up an application.

2015 Washington DC/NY Trip
FOR CURRENT 7th GRADE PARENTS:  There will be an initial parent meeting on Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:00pm in the WCI Library to inform you about next year's 8th grade trip to Washington DC & New York.  Your student will be receiving a packet in PE on Monday April 21st, please review it with your child and if interested in the trip please attend the meeting on April 22nd.  If you have questions, please contact trip leaders Steve Miller and Sarah Oliphant at [email protected].  *This is not a Walnut Creek School District sponsored trip.
Creek Kids Care "Say Yes Concert"
Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the April 27 Creek Kids Care "Say Yes" concert, a fabulous event featuring talented youth performers.  The concert will be held at Hillside Covenant Church at 4:00.  Doors open at 3:00 for a boutique.  Proceeds directly benefit both the Trinity Center (serving our local homeless community) and the Mother of Peace orphanage in Zimbabwe.  Tickets can be purchased at www.creekkids.org.  More details can be found on the flyer attached to this newsletter and on the Creek  Kids website.
Creek Kids Care Meeting
Creek Kids Care is meeting next Wednesday, April 23, at 8:30 am in room 305.  New members are very welcome!  Creek Kids is a local nonprofit organization comprised of youths working together to benefit the Trinity Center (serving our local homeless community) and the Mother of Peace orphanage in Zimbabwe.  Details about the organization can be found at www.creekkids.org.  We'll also be meeting  May 21 and June 4.
Boxtops for Education
Now that spring break is over, it's time once again to round up all those box top coupons and have your child bring them into the library.  Unlike an Easter basket full of candy, a full box top receptacle has no calories - just those little coupons that add up to more money for our wonderful library!  Anne Woods at [email protected] thanks everyone for their continued support on behalf of our library.
WCI Coed Tennis
Registration starts March 25th through April 25nd.
Tennis will start Tuesday, April 29th and run twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) 4:00-5:30, and last until May 29th. We will be limited to 36 sign-ups between both schools. Location, Heather Farm tennis center. This is an intramural program for beginners and advanced players with some competition between our two schools. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the tennis center.

Cost: $240 (Includes team shirt)

If you are looking to join a fun, family-oriented, dedicated swim team than check out Rudgear Estates Swim Team at www.rudgearrats.com.  Registration is open for swim team AND spring clinic (4/21 - 5/2). No pool membership required, no gate duty and no maintenance day.  Job buy-outs available.

WC Marauders
Join over 150 boys and girls who participate in the Walnut Creek Marauders Football and Cheer Program. Highlights of the Marauders program include:
  • Football player divisions are grouped based on the player's age and weight. Learning the game in stages that are safe and fun.
  • All Football coaches are tackle certified through USA Football's HEADS UP� program. A partnership with the NFL Players Association promoting safety through technique.
  • All Cheer coaches are certified through both the National Youth Sports Coaches Association as well as the JAMZ Cheer & Dance Organization.
  • Football and cheer practices share the same schedule and location.  Practices are conveniently located at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek.
