Measure A
|
AUHSD's Parcel Tax Measure A
The Governing Board of the Acalanes Union High School District recently called for an election to renew Measure A (2010), an existing, expiring parcel tax supporting the local high schools - Acalanes, Campolindo, Las Lomas and Miramonte. Students in the elementary districts in Canyon, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and Walnut Creek are served by the Acalanes Union High School District schools.
Measure A is on the May 6, 2014, Mail Ballot Only Election. To pass, Measure A must receive at least 66.7% support.
Without raising tax rates, Measure A would extend the current parcel tax measure beyond 2015, and continue to generate almost $4 million in revenue for the District, nearly 8% of the District's annual budget. Measure A funds would be monitored by a Citizens' Oversight Committee and would be used to maintain local funding for the following:
- Advanced programs in math, science and technology
- The ability to attract and retain highly qualified teachers
- Funding for art and music programs
- Up-to-date classroom technology and instructional materials
- Safe, well-maintained schools
- Academic support services from librarians and counselors
- Manageable class sizes
If Measure A is not approved, the Acalanes District Governing Board will have to address the $4 million decrease in revenue by identifying areas to cut in 2015. Core and elective program offerings and access would be reduced substantially, and support services for students would be further reduced.
For more information pertaining to Measure A, please refer to the District Frequently Asked Questions. To learn more about the campaign to pass Measure A, please visit www.YesForAcalanesHighSchools.org.

7th and 8th Grade Dance Mardi Gra Dance
|
The 7th and 8th grade Mardi Gras Dance will be held in the gym on March 14th from 6:30-8:30pm. Click here for more information.
WE NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESSFUL DANCE FOR THE 7TH & 8TH GRADE STUDENTS!!!
We need parents in three ways:
ONE...as BAKERS
We can NEVER have enough snacks for the kids. We are looking for at least 20 parents to bring 2-3 dozen cookies or brownies, or health snacks such as pretzels, crackers or fruit (bite-sized please). All snacks need to be provided in disposable containers and dropped off at the office by 12:00 on Friday, March 14th (labeled "school dance") OR delivered to gym by 5:45 on March 14th.
TWO...as CHAPERONES
Our job as chaperones is very simple! Chaperones need to arrive at WCI by 5:45 and plan to stay until 8:45. Duties include checking the kids into the dance and chaperoning the dance & refreshment areas. NO set-up or clean-up is required!!! ALSO, NO DISCIPLINING is required! As chaperones, we are there as extra sets of eyes. Should any student behavior require attention, chaperones will need to let the administrators know--they will handle it! We need 8-10 parents to volunteer as chaperones.
THREE...as COAT CHECKERS if raining. We need 2-3 parents to check in and check out students' coats and other belongings and use a numbered system to keep them organized in the weight room during the dance. Please arrive at WCI by 6:00 and plan to stay until 8:45.
Please click here to sign up.

Boxtops for Education
|
The box top receptacle in the library needs to be filled with those box top coupons! Let's spring into action, round up those little coupons and have your child drop them off in the library. It would be great to have a full box before Spring break next month. More box top coupons = more money for our wonderful library! Anne Woods at shepwoods@comcast.net thanks everyone for their continuing support on behalf of the library.
