Principal's Message

Sister-to-Sister Summit

Sister-to-Sister's fifteenth annual summit is just around the corner on March 22! All middle school girls are invited to join AAUW's trained high school facilitators for a day designed to celebrate all things girl. S2S provides a safe and supportive environment to discuss the many dimensions of adolescence. Games, food, gifts and prizes, activities, and ceremonies are also part of the conference.

Stefana Serafina, M.A., this year's featured speaker, is a movement and embodiment educator, group facilitator, and counselor.  She is a dancer who struggled with bulimia, and her message is empowering women through getting in touch with theirbodies. Cultural messages of perfection have affected all women, often to the extent of self-abuse as exemplified in eating disorders and excessive exercise, as well as being disconnected from modes of self-expression. Her message and method of dance help women and girls to reconnect to the power that is within them.

Stefana is also offering a seminar for parents the morning of the summit so that they can become more aware of how they can support their daughter's self-image. This involves becoming more conscious of messages that they are sending that undermine their own and their daughter's body confidence. To learn more about Stefana, visit her website at www.intuitivedance.com/.

On summit day your daughter will meet confident and articulate high school girls. In addition to being assigned a high school mentor for the day, the summit also features games, food, gifts and prizes, activities, and ceremonies that symbolize the connections made during the day.

The summit will be held at Bentley School, 1000    Upper Happy Valley Road, Lafayette. The cost is $45 and preregistration is required. Applications must be received by March 17. Register online at http://oml-ca.aauw.net/s2s/registraton/ or download the brochure and register by mail. Make your check payable to AAUW-OML, and mail your application with your payment to AAUW-OML, S2S Summit, c/o Trisha Vaughn, 55 Merrill Circle North, Moraga, 94556. For questions regarding registration, call (925) 376-6184.

Sister-to-Sister is a community outreach program of the American Association of University Women, Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette Branch (AAUW-OML).
