Principal's Message
This week we will be holding interviews for the new Vice Principal/TSA and new Counselor position for WCI.  Both interviews will consist of a team of teachers, administrators and parents.  We are looking forward to great interviews and are looking forward soon having new members to our WCI community.

Also, Las Lomas High School will be having their Freshman parent orientation Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 pm in their gym.  This will be followed by Las Lomas having open classrooms and sports/extracurricular information in the gym at 7:30 pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity to see what will be in store for you next year if you have a student transitioning to Las Lomas.

Have a wonderful week.

7th Grade Japan Days
Thank you to all of the volunteers who were able to come to the Japan Days training session last week.  The 7th graders are excited about having Japan Day in their core classes tomorrow and Friday.  Please arrive for your scheduled volunteer slot approximately 10-15 minutes early and check in at the Staff Lunchroom (across from the attendance office).  From there, head to your designated classroom.  If you have any questions, please contact your child's core teacher.  Thank you so much for helping out.

Musical Corner
Our WCI music students have been very busy this school year so far. In addition to the music program's Fall Concert on Oct 24 and Winter Concerts on December 17 & 18, our
Jazz Band also performed at the
San Joaquin Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton on December 7 and at the
San Ramon Valley High School Invitational Jazz Festival on December 14. Students having earned
Outstanding Soloist Awards are Kevin D (trumpet) and Ian J-L (baritone saxophone). Way to go!!

Upcoming jazz festivals include the CMEA Jazz East Festival being held at Northgate HS in Walnut Creek on January 17 and the Folsom Jazz Festival being held at Folsom HS in Folsom on January 25.

Three of our music students who were nominated by Mrs. Zigas-Brown and who were chosen by a panel, had the opportunity to participate in the CMEA Bay Section Winter Conference Junior High Honor groups this past Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11 at San Jose State University. Reilly T (cello) and Emily B (violin) performed in the Junior High Orchestra and MacKenzie C (bassoon) performed in the Junior High Concert Band. These students spent all day Friday in rehearsals at San Jose State University and performed in a concert on Saturday, also at SJSU. They got to meet and work with guest conductors, as well as other students their age from all around the Bay Area. It was a very exciting experience and a wonderful performance!

Two of our music students are headed to perform in the All State Bands at the California All State Music Educators Conference from February 20 - 24 in Fresno. The All State groups are by audition only; Kevin D and Ian J-L sent in a recorded audition of required material, along with over 1700 other young musicians and have received word that they have been chosen for an All State Band. Ian will be in the Junior High Jazz Band on baritone sax and Kevin will be in the Junior High Concert Band on trumpet. This is an amazing accomplishment; congratulations!

Our music students are representing the WCI Music Program with vigor!! Mrs. Z-B couldn't be more proud of all of you!
