PHILADELPHIA ARMENIAN INTERCOMMUNAL COMMITTEE
COMMEMORATED THE 101 ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The Intercommunal Committee of five Armenian Churches of the Delaware Valley commemorated the 101 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church of Cheltenham, PA.
The entire program was dedicated to the Armenian classical music, before Genocide, during and after.
The world renown pianist Shahan Ardzruni most graciously agreed to come down and play key pieces from Gara Murza, Gomidas, Alan Hovhannes and Aram Khatchaturian. Intermittently he shared very interesting stories as well about the composers.
A record crowd  was at hand to savor the piano pieces and honor the memory of the 1.5 million Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.

MEN'S CLUB TRIVIA NIGHT

The hard working members of our Men's club organized successfully a trivia fun night for our parishioners on Saturday, April 23, 7-11 P.M. in  our Founders Hall.

This event which was another fund raiser for the Men's Club was very well attended. Over 100 guests had a very exciting and intellectually stimulating night, and enjoyed as well Armenian finger food and drinks.

The Pastor and the Board of Trustees truly appreciate all the hard working members of our Men's Club, who are constantly coming up with creative ideas to raise funds for our church and bring the community together in similar social events. Kudos to our Men's Club.

The next event of our Men's Club will be held on Mother's Day when they will honor all the mothers of the parish with sumptuous breakfast.

SUNDAY BIBLE READING
SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER EASTER

The reading is from the Acts of the Apostles 20:17-38

And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church.  And when they came to him, he said to them:  "You yourselves know how I lived among you all the time from the first day that I set foot in Asia, serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials which befell me through the plots of the Jews; how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house, testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance to God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.  And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, bound in the Spirit, not knowing what shall befall me there; except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me.  But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may accomplish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.  And now, behold, I know that all you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will see my face no more.  Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.  Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you guardians, to feed the church of the Lord which he obtained with his own blood.  I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.  Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears.  And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.  I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel.  You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities, and to those who were with me.  In all things I have shown you that by so toiling one must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, `It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
And when he had spoken thus, he knelt down and prayed with them all.  And they all wept and embraced Paul and kissed him, sorrowing most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they should see his face no more.  And they brought him to the ship.

The reading is from the First Letter of John 3:2-6

Beloved, we are God's children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  And every one who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
Every one who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.  You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.  No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him.

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN 9:39-10:10

Our Lord Jesus Christ:
Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind."  Some of the Pharisees near him heard this, and they said to him, "Are we also blind?"  Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, `We see,' your guilt remains.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber; but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.  A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."  This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.  All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them.  I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."
