 SOLIDARITY WITH ARTZAKH
HIS HOLINESS KAREKIN II AND ARAM I IN ARTZAKH
STEPANAKERT-His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians and His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia on Wednesday arrived in Artsakh where they met with Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakian.
The two church leaders were briefed on the latest developments following the savage attack by Azerbaijani forces against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Sahakian said that during the attacks the Armenian nation demonstrated exemplary unity, commitment and a national spirit, adding that the Armenian Church played a critical role in that process.
The president also underscored the historic significance of the trip by the two church leaders as it is the first time the two pontiffs are visiting Artsakh together.
Primate of the Artsakh Diocese Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, participated in the meeting with a group of clerics and representatives from the church.
According to the press office of the Cilician Catholicoste, the pontiffs arrived in Artsakh at noon Wednesday and were greeted by a military guard.
Catholicos Aram I arrived in Yerevan Tuesday and, together with Karekin II, met with President Serzh Sarkisian.
During the meeting, the latest situation was discussed with a special emphasis on the importance of national mobilization and unity around Artsakh.

Circular Addressed to the Clergy and Boards of Trustees of our Prelacy
Dear Brothers in Christ,
It is a well known fact that the Azerbaijani army, following over two decades of frequent incidences in violation of the internationally brokered ceasefire of 1994 (which brought about a peace accord), on April 2 of the current year officially declared war and waged a far fledged attack on Artsakh, causing damage to border cities, loss of life, inhumane treatment and displacement.
Praise to the Almighty One that our ferocious heroes, fighting against an army equipped with modern weaponry, pushed back and defeated the enemy, once again reasserting the innate skill of the Armenian warrior, the irreplaceable strength of the motherland and the unified spirit of the global Armenian community.
This auspicious victory without a doubt was brought to hand at a very dear price: the lives of forty young heroes and the blood of over one hundred wounded. During this fateful time as regards our people's existence, what an encouragement it is to see that through prayer, financial donations and diplomatic means every Armenian has been rushing to give his/her aid!
Thus,we instruct all our clergy that these next Sundays, April 17 and April 24 during your sermon you would reflect upon our heroes' prodigiousness and upon the duty of each Armenian. Also, to conduct a special collection and to encourage the faithful to participate through generous donations in assisting the families of the fallen heroes and in the sacred mission of building our Nation.
Relaying this to you for immediate action,
We remain with warm greetings of fatherly love,
Prayerfully,
Archbishop Oshagan, Prelate
Eastern Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America

RED SUNDAY
The third Sunday after Easter is called Red Sunday. Again, in our liturgy, there is no explanation as to why this Sunday is called Red. The only assumption we may have is, that it speaks about the blood of our Lord which he shed for us on the cross. As if the Church is reminding her parishioners that the miracle of Easter was started on the Golgotha, where Jesus shed his blood. If Green Sunday was the celebration of post resurrection new life, Red Sunday should be an occasion to celebrate the price which was paid for that new life. In his catechism book, Catholicos Babken has printed the following Armenian ode which speaks about the same symbolism and meaning:
This elegant day
Is called red,
Because the Lord appears
As on Easter morning
On a Sunday,
And the calling of this Sunday
Red Sunday,
Is very befitting,
Because it flourishes with blood.

RED SUNDAY READINGS
The reading is from the First Letter of Peter 5:1-14
So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ as well as a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed. Tend the flock of God that is your charge, not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd is manifested you will obtain the unfading crown of glory. Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God; stand fast in it. She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark. Greet one another with the kiss of love.
Peace to all of you that are in Christ.
THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN 5:19-30
Our Lord Jesus Christ:
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all that he himself is doing; and greater works than these will he show him, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
"I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me."
