SUNDAY BIBLE READING
EASTER
FEAST OF RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD

The reading is from the Acts of the Apostles 1:15-26

In those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty), and said, "Brethren, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus.  For he was numbered among us, and was allotted his share in this ministry.  (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness; and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out.  And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)  For it is written in the book of Introduction: Psalms, `Let his habitation become desolate, and let there be no one to live in it'; and `His office let another take.'  So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from usone of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection."  And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.  And they prayed and said, "Lord, you know everyone's hearts.  Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place."  And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was enrolled with the eleven apostles.

  Introduction: Psalm 147:12-20
Alleluia, Alleluia.  Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!  Praise your God, O Zion!
For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your sons within you.
He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat.
He sends forth his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
He gives snow like wool; he scatters hoarfrost like ashes.
He casts forth his ice like morsels; who can stand before his cold?
He sends forth his word, and melts them; he makes his wind
blow, and the waters flow.  He declares his word to
Jacob, his statutes and ordinances to Israel.
He has not dealt thus with any nation; they do
not know his ordinances.  Praise the Lord!

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO MARK 16:2-8

And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen.  And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?"  And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; for it was very large.  And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed.  And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified.  He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him.  But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you."  And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MEANING OF EASTER EGGS?

  1. The color of the eggs should be only red, since it represents the blood of our Lord. The eggs were colored with onion skin in olden days before the invention of food dies. At the end of Great Lent the eggs symbolize as well the rejuvenation of human life.
  2. According to a legend Mary Magdalene when went to Rome to preach the Gospel, upon visiting Emperor Tiberius, she gave him a colored egg saying "Christ is risen from the Dead."
  3. Easter egg is now a symbol of the tomb of our Lord.
  4. Easter egg is a symbol of the universe. Its shell represents the heaven, the air pocket the atmosphere, the white part the water bodies and the yoke the earth. The color red means that the entire world was bought by the blood of Jesus. And we carry the eggs in our hands to proclaim our salvation. This is why when we break our fast the first thing we eat is Easter egg. On Holy Saturday, after fasting all day, the believers attend the Easter eve Badarak, receive communion and before sharing the traditional dinner, they crack eggs and say to each other: "Kristos Hariav ee merelotz."

Haigazian and Sunday School's  Art and Craft Day
Haigazian and Sunday school students participated in Art & Craft Day organized by the Haigazian School Executive Committee. Students watched a slide presentation about 20th century Armenian Artists and expressed their own creativity through their drawings and paintings with the help of local Armenian Artist, Vahe Ashodian.  Day continued with learning how to make hand soap with parent volunteer Mrs. Arpi Hartnett. Each student made their own colored and scented soap to take home. Day ended with making chocolates with fruit and nut, chocolate covered strawberries and apples with Haigazian School Teacher, Mrs. Sevan Atamian. Everyone enjoyed eating the delicious hand-made chocolates that they made.
