Lucine Aline Hovagimian, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Aram and Sossi Hopvagimian was born on 1/12/16 at 3:55pm weighing 6lbs 9oz. Mom and baby are doing great.  Her Pappa (Mihael Hagopian) and Dede (Jirair Hovagimian) are definitely smiling down on her.

A GREAT EXAMPLE OF VOLUNTARISM
Throughout the centuries the Church of Christ always thrived because parishioners gave. The same is true for our parish as well. We have so many humble volunteers in our parish who come forward voluntarily and make things happen in our church. And as I told you, they do all things with humility, without seeking any notoriety. But sometimes I would use their achievement stories not necessarily to exalt them but use them as inspiration for others.

Arman Shahikian, a well-known carpenter, never hesitated to say yes to any project which needed to be accomplished. The old baptismal room needed some modification to serve as a dressing room for our acolytes; Der Hyr needed a slipper rack or new wardrobe in his vestry room; or the choir needed new lockers, Arman had already planned and implemented them without any hoopla and most efficiently and without charging a penny for his work.

Lately, to maximize our storage capability and to beautify the Mahss room, once again Arman planned, purchased and installed beautiful cabinets in that room by working three full days with full love and humility. The result of his exceptional volunteerism is a transformed Mahss room to a neat looking room with plenty of storage.

2016: YEAR OF SERVICE MESSAGE
WILL BE READ IN PARISHES ON JANUARY 24

His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, has declared 2016 as the "Year of Service." In his Pontifical Message, which will be read in most of our parishes on Sunday, January 24, the Catholicos writes about the vital role of service and describes service at the "Essence of the Christian Faith."  He goes on to show the depiction of service in the Bible and in the writings of the Church Fathers, as well as the role of service as an obligation and duty of all Christians. His Holiness writes, "By declaring the current year The Year of Service, we want to remind our people that it is necessary to participate with great dedication in our nation's noble work, with the brave knowledge that God will bless our service, and history will remember and honor not what we had, but that which we gave, not our beautiful words, but our good deeds."

SUNDAY BIBLE READING
Paregentan of the Fast of the Catechumens

The reading is from the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy 2:15-26

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.  Avoid such godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will eat its way like gangrene.  Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have swerved from the truth by holding that the resurrection is past already.  They are upsetting the faith of some.  But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal:  "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity."
In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and earthenware, and some for noble use, some for ignoble.  If any one purifies himself from what is ignoble, then he will be a vessel for noble use, consecrated and useful to the master of the house, ready for any good work.  So shun youthful passions and aim at righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.  Have nothing to do with stupid, senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.  And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to every one, an apt teacher, forbearing, correcting his opponents with gentleness.  God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth, and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN 6:15-21

Our Lord Jesus Christ:
Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum.  It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.  The sea rose because a strong wind was blowing.  When they have rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat.  They were frightened, but he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid."  Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
