Volume 1, Number1November 2014
October 24 marked the one-year anniversary of the signing of our Articles of Incorporation: the birthday of the Spirit of Harmony Foundation! It's been a productive year of strategic planning, building partnerships, and refining our mission and purposes.

We enter Year Two with a multi-talented Board of Directors and Advisory Board, energetic volunteers, and exciting plans for 2015. We are now launching our new quarterly newsletter to help keep our supporters informed of our many activities.

Thank you for being with us on this journey.
MUSIC EDUCATION: A MORAL IMPERATIVE
Why is Music Education Important?

An ever-increasing body of academic research correlates exposure to the Arts with academic and individual success, and that musical performance (especially with a group of other players) encourages positive personal development. With current trends of drastically reduced funding for music and arts programs in America's public schools (especially in lower-income districts), the Spirit of Harmony Foundation will apply its resources to elevate the awareness of, and access to, music education through hands-on programs, funding, public awareness, virtual and in-person mentorship opportunities, and an internet-based showcase for musical performances.
