ASPE Chapter 6 Newsletter
December 2013

President's Message

Happy Holidays to All Chapter 6 members and their family's.

I am proud to announce that our chapter won the ASPE membership Drive and we will be having ASPE president Joe Flemming as a guest speaker in the coming new year.

Welcome all new members and thanks to existing members for renewing their memberships.

All our members should be proud! We are now the largest chapter in the southwest & third largest chapter in the country .......I see 2nd largest in the near future.

This is your chapter, so please bring up any new ideas or comments at our monthly meetings. We need to hear from you to make us an even better chapter in the New Year.

The 11th hour Bid Simulation that Ray Baker CPE & his team put on last month was a great success.

It was a fun and very educational event & the feedback we received was very positive & encouraging.

Because of this successful event we will be having another one in the New Year.

Thanks to all moderators and those that contributed laptops and calculators & especially to Ray Baker & his team.

We have posted a link to photos on our new website aspe-chaptersix.org.

I am excited about the presenters that our programs committee has lined up for the coming year to speak at our monthly educational meetings. It should be a solid year of programs. See January & February events on our website.

As always our meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month except July & December.

Please make sure that any email that Chapter 6 sends to you don't end up in your spam. Please allow any emails from aspe@aspe-chaptersix.org to come through.

These will be reminders of upcoming events and new info.

The next Certified Estimator Cycle starts in January.

For those willing to take the next step in your career contact our Certification Chairmen Tom Norton at tgan@icloud.com for more information.

We need a volunteer or two to head up a "Marketing Committee" to sell ad space on our new website and these newsletters. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer.

Have a safe holiday season and I will see you all on January 14th.

Carl Cathcart CPE

UPCOMING CERTIFICATION CALENDAR DATES

Summer Cycle Candidates Technical Paper Submitted to SBO: December 15, 2013

Winter Cycle Applications Due to SBO: January 10,2014. November's newsletter erroneously stated the due date as January 19. The correct date is January 10, 2014.

Summer cycle candidates should consider having the chapter certification committee review technical papers prior to submitting them to the SBO.

Considering becoming a Certified Professional Estimator, but you are just not sure about it? If you are interested in continually maintaining and increasing your professional construction estimating knowledge, why not be recognized for it by being accredited by a nationally recognized organization? Some reasons to consider certification are:

  1. Certification grants you professional credentials.
  2. Certification demonstrates your commitment to the industry and estimating profession.
  3. Certification enhances the profession's image.
  4. Certification reflects personal achievement.
  5. Certification builds self-esteem.

("Brochure for Candidates." aspenational.org. American Society of Professional Estimators 12/01/2013.)

Certification Renewals Program: ASPE has now implemented a PDU system for certification renewals. Once renewed and cycle dates begin on or after August 1, 2013, the CPE will be on the PDU based system forward.

Contact Tom Norton, Chapter 6 Certification Chairman, with any questions. Tom can be reached at tgan@icloud.com or (480) 381-4678.
