Camp CASBO 2015

On July 11-12, 2015, more than 150 CASBO leaders and staff converged

on Orange County for Camp CASBO, a special, "invitation only" program

for member leaders. Those attending included section and Professional Council leaders, statewide committee and task force members, and CASBO's officers and Board of Directors.

 

The third annual program was designed to prepare our leadership team

for the upcoming year and assist members in using our services and programs. More

Northern Section to host DIR compliance workshop 

On Friday, September 18, 2015, CASBO's Northern Section is presenting a workshop to explain how the new Public Works DIR Compliance with Prevailing Wage and Reporting Law affects contractors and public agencies.

 

SB 854, which took effect on July 1, 2014, funds the administration and enforcement of California's prevailing wage requirements by the California Department of Industrial Relations. More

The Los Angeles Unified School District has announced plans for an educational campaign to address sexting, according to an ABC7 Los Angeles Eyewitness News report. LAUSD officials said the campaign will teach students about the dangers of sexting, including possible criminal violations of child pornography and obscenity laws, and the personal consequences. More

Most California school districts will be affected by the state's new vaccination law that goes into effect July 1, 2016. In fact, 47 of 58 California counties reported that for the 2014-15 school year, they had kindergartners with personal belief exemptions to school-required vaccinations, according to an EdSource report.

 

Statewide, 13,500 of 500,000 kindergarteners held personal belief exemptions, and those exemptions were spread across the state. More

Students who started high school in the midst of The Great Recession

were still driven to attend college despite the bleak economic outlook of the time, according to recently released federal data.

 

Of all the students who started 9th grade in 2009, an overwhelming majority graduated and moved on to higher education in four years, according to the National Center for Education Statistics' latest report. More

I recently made my almost-annual visit to the optometrist. As anyone who's been through the process can recall, during the exam the optometrist tries to identify your prescription by placing a variety of lenses in front of you and asking "Is this more clear or less clear?" After a while, as they rotate through the lenses, they just ask "more or less?" For some reason, the more or less theme has been playing over and over in my head the last few weeks. More
