CASBO Insights

"We all know great leaders when we see them, even though it may be hard to describe what the leader does." These words were recently spoken by our outgoing president Vince Christakos.... And though he was talking about people who have supported, encouraged and mentored him both personally and professionally during his CASBO presidency and in his capacity as Assistant Superintendent at Hemet Unified School District, it's clear that this statement very accurately describes Vince himself. Principles announced to guide use, safety of student data

The Data Quality Campaign and the Consortium for School Networking have crafted a list of principles for protecting and guiding the use of the personal data of U.S. students in an attempt to ensure that school officials' and educational data-use proponents' opinions on student data privacy are heard. The ideas are supported by a coalition of nearly three dozen groups representing state education chiefs, superintendents, principals, teachers and parents. More

Turning lemons into lemonade

Can bad things happen to good people? Sure. And that may be exactly why they are good people, says a new study. Or at least the adversity in our lives can be used to increase our overall satisfaction.

Alyssa Croft of the University of British Columbia and her colleagues surveyed 15,000 adults and discovered that "people who have overcome more adversity in the past are better at savoring life's small pleasures...."

The 2015 Annual Conference ... a milestone for CASBO!

As I write this, we've just completed the 2015 CASBO Annual Conference & California School Business Expo. If an outsider visited our offices, it would look like we're on the verge of moving. Our public areas are filled with boxes and materials returned from conference. Quite a successful conference, if I do say so myself. More
