Task force seeks to restore art in California classrooms

The arts education task force created by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson recently called for arts education to become a core subject available to all students.

The task force envisions a relevant, robust, dynamic arts curriculum to keep kids in schools, narrow the achievement gap and give students an opportunity to discover and develop their individual talents, Torlakson said in a news releaseMore

Lack of resources, inadequate planning plagued iPad rollout

President's budget includes education funding boost

President Barack Obama's 2016 budget proposal released last week calls for funding increases for education, with early childhood programs; teacher development and training; and a push for free community college tuition among the highlighted initiatives, according to an EdSource report.

The president is asking for $71 billion in discretionary funding for the U.S. Department of Education - a 5.4 percent increase over current funding - according to budget information released last week. The package was part of Obama's overall $4 trillion budget proposal for 2016. More

To get back on track, integrative medicine practitioners like Dr. Andrew Weil swear by the 4-7-8 breathing trick to relieve stress.

Depending on your lifespan, how young you were when you started working and how old you'll be when you retire, you will spend between 10 and 20 percent of your life at work. If you reach the average life span of 75, that's 7.5 to 15 years of pure working.

So it's amazing - and sad - how many people are unsatisfied or, worse, downright unhappy in the workplace. Too often, this is due to office drama and other negative office behaviors, including bullying. If this describes your staff atmosphere lately, read on.

My CASBO VIP valentine ...

I bet just the title of this blog will make some folks stop reading. I know some view Valentine's Day as another money pit that involves false sentiments and obligations, not to mention the dangerous role it can play in personal relationships. This is not a sentiment isolated to gender! I know men and women who just want the holiday to go away. Not me. I view it as an opportunity to celebrate, encourage and appreciate each other. More
