Classroom technology transformation on the horizon
Education companies attending EdNET 2014 last week were told that school districts nationwide are at a tipping point in their readiness to transform classrooms with the use of technology.
That said, issues around equity, efficacy and privacy must first be addressed in order for the transformation to occur. Also an issue-districts nationwide are at different places on the spectrum when it comes to technology. More

The average employee, a recent survey revealed, spends about 80 minutes each day putting off work. In paycheck terms, that adds up to $9,000 per worker per year a district spends for the mental angst of not doing work.
Can folks turn this around? Despite the fact that 95 percent of people studied say they want to change this habit, 46 percent of the tendency to procrastinate and 49 percent of the tendency toward impulsiveness is attributable to genes. Chances are, you were born to delay. More

Sorry, we don't have winning lottery numbers or tax advice today. But billionaire Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, shared his best advice with Elite Daily, an online media site for GenY, that is just as good.
First, dreams are all well and good, but dreams don't get you very far. It's making an effort that accomplishes the goal. More

The numbers lie in the research: half of the men in a group of graduating MBA students negotiated their job offers compared to only one-eighth of women. The truth lies in emotional intelligence: It's not a lack of confidence. Women are better at recognizing the fact people aren't as willing to work side by side after they've been locked in a financial back and forth. More

Why CASBO opposes Proposition 46
Earlier this year, CASBO joined a broad and bipartisan coalition of education groups, labor organizations, doctors, community health centers, hospitals, local governments, public safety agencies, businesses, community groups and others to oppose Proposition 46 on the November General Election ballot. Given that the initiative's title on the ballot is "Drug and Alcohol Testing of Doctors - Medical Negligence Lawsuits," many CASBO members may be wondering why the association's Board of Directors took this action, and how the initiative would impact local education agencies. MOLLY'S NOTEBOOK
| Playing favorites... Most people with siblings remember the banter in families about who is the favorite child. Comedian Tommy Smothers made the line, "Mom always liked me best" both a punch line and a term that became part of the culture of the 1970s and 80s. Favoritism is an interesting topic, and one that is almost always present in families-and in workplaces. More |
