TALLAHASSEE - Florida Gov. Rick Scott is ordering a drop in the cost of the state's lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.

However, the break will only last for a brief time and it is available only for state residents 21 years old or younger.

Scott on Thursday ordered the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to lower the cost of a "lifetime sportsman's license" to $500 for young people. It currently costs $1,001 for anyone 13 and older.

The lowered fee is available from Nov. 24 to Dec. 31.

"This Lifetime Sportsman's License will provide Florida's youth with the opportunity to spend time outdoors with their families. Fishing and hunting are time-honored traditions in our state, and I encourage all Floridians to spend some time enjoying the great outdoors."

A Florida resident who buys the license can use it for hunting as well as both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Jamie Mathis from Tifton, GA, caught a nice trout (and quite a few more) last Saturday, saying "They were biting too fast to take pictures!"
