HASD Continues Work to Improve Safety

The Hortonville Area School District (HASD) safety team has been examining model safety plans and procedures to ensure that students and staff have a safe learning and working environment. "Throughout the Spring of 2013, the safety team has reviewed plans and procedures recommended by Outagamie County law enforcement officials, the Wisconsin DOA (Dept. of Administration), and RETA Security consultants," explained HASD Safety Coordinator/Activities Director Andy Kolosso. Julie Loeffelholz and Rob Olson from the Outagamie County Department of Emergency Management have been extremely involved in guiding the HASD safety team to assemble a crisis plan for district leaders to adhere to. GATE Students Giving Back to the Community  

 

As the result of a Gifted and Talented (GATE) grant proposed by the Cooperative Education Servicing Agency in Oshkosh (CESA #6), students from several area middle schools including Greenville Middle School, Neenah's Shattuck, Maplewood in Menasha, and Shiocton Middle have been working throughout the school year on projects to connect their schools and their communities. At each school a team of 2-6 students developed leadership, teamwork, and communication skills as they worked through the process of developing a community service project. Reading and discussing a book about a character who was a leader despite her difficult circumstances provided motivation and encouragement when things were not going as smoothly as the teams would have liked. ELL Family Night: Learning by Doing


On May 9th, 2013, the ELL (English Language Learners) Department hosted their 8th annual ELL Family Night. According to Kris Zullner, Hortonville Area School District's (HASD) ELL Coordinator, "The main purposes of Family Night are to celebrate literacy and to strengthen the family-school connection. The students talk about it and look forward to it every year."

This year at ELL Family Night, a literacy focus with the theme of "Learning by Doing" was in place. Students, staff, and family members enjoyed a variety of activities including word games, making a bear book, writing on cookies and practicing language skills on iPads, to name a few. Read more... 

Conserving Energy to See Savings in HASD  

   

Over the past several years the Hortonville Area School District (HASD) has continually focused on saving energy dollars throughout the District.

 

In previous years, HASD had completed an analysis of each building's light levels to ensure all areas had adequate lighting. After this analysis was complete, light levels were increased or decreased as appropriate to meet current lighting recommendations. Read more...
