Using Data to Aid Student Achievement

 

Hortonville Area School District staff works to ensure that every student learns at the highest level. What helps the district in this endeavor? A data warehouse system called Alpine Achievement Systems. Alpine is a system that helps school districts to manage and store large quantities of student assessment data that can then be used to assist teachers and administrators in making better decisions for student learning. Math Curriculum Changes to Improve Student Learning
  

One of the most important things in education is to ensure that students are learning subject materials and meeting state requirements. To help in this endeavor, the Hortonville Area School District has implemented the Common Core State Standards into the math curriculum. 

 

Common Core State Standards are a set of consistent, clear K-12 academic standards in English language arts and mathematics that have been adopted across the United States in 45 states. These standards are relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that young learners need to be prepared for future education and work. HASD teachers will be using the common core state standards to guide classroom instruction as there is now a different focus for learning mathematics.

First Lego League is Expanding in the HASD 

 

Twenty-first century skills including teamwork, innovation, communication and gracious professionalism are foundational to First Lego League, an international program designed to engage students in research, innovative thinking, robot design, problem solving, programming, and teamwork.

 

The FLL season officially opened September 3, but teams began to form last spring. A parent meeting was held in April, and coaches were recruited. In August, teams were registered and a two-day camp gave them a jump start on the season. The camp, organized by Deb Van Dalen and held at GMS, would not have been successful if it were not for the help of one of our veteran teams, Titan robotics, and parent volunteers. Thanks to a former coach, Dave Kettner, a coach's clinic was also held.
