State Testing
We have started the Oregon State Standards Assessments for students in 3rd-5th grades. All students in these grades are required to take tests in reading and math and 5th grade students are also required to take a science test. It is important that students are well rested and eat well in the mornings. The testing will last through March 22nd. Students who meet or exceed the state test standards, will not take the test/s again. Students who do not meet the state standards in reading, math, and/or science (5th grade only) will need to take the test again. The second round of testing is the beginning of May. Your child will only have one more opportunity to pass the state test if they did not meet the test requirements the first time. |

Student Tardies/Absences
A friendly reminder that our school day begins at 8:50am and ends at 3:30pm. Please do your best to have your child at school on time. Also please refrain from picking up your child/children before 3:30pm. We have had a number of tardies and students being picked up early. We also have a number of students who have been absent this school year 5 or more days.
When your child is absent from school for 1 day he/she loses an average of 6 hours of teaching and learning time. For every 5 days your child is absent, your child loses 30 hours of teaching and learning time. With much more rigorous national academic standards, it's imperative that your child/children are in school the entire day. Thank you for your support and understanding.
VIP Day
Due to student safety and security concerns, Firwood's VIP Day (usually scheduled in March with our Science Fair) has been cancelled. We invite you to attend our Science Fair or Art Exhibit with your child scheduled for Thursday, March 21st from 6-8pm. The Book Fair will also be open for your shopping convenience in the library from 5:30-8:30pm. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Kindergarten Round-Up
Tuesday, April 2nd 6-7:30pm
For your incoming kindergartener: Please bring your child's immunization records and birth certificate.
Be aware...
We have been having cars getting broken into in our school parking lot during the school day. The thief is smashing out windows and taking valuables. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and remove all valuables from your car-even if you are coming into the school for a minute. It only takes a thief seconds to steal something!
Friendly Reminder: Check our website often for current information and news from the principal.
