Report Cards
Report Cards will be sent home with your child/children on Friday, February 8th. Please look over your child's report cards carefully. Please keep the report and sign and return the envelope to your child's teacher.
Also a friendly reminder that with the new Common Core State Standards, your child may not be at standard for his/her grade level and this will be common with many children. With the increase in academic expectations, many students will be behind . Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions and how you can best support your child at home.
State Testing
We will begin the Oregon State Standards Assessments for students in 3rd-5th grades at the end of February. All students in these grades are required to take tests in reading and math. It is important that students are well rested and eat well in the mornings. The testing will last several weeks into March. You will receive more information from your child's teacher before testing begins. |

Greetings!
Student Safety
In response to the tragic events that ocurred in Connecticut last month, I want to assure all of you that student safety is our number one priority at Firwood and within our entire school district. Our school is equipped with 24/7 video surveillance, and all doors to each school building will remained locked during the school day. In addition, our school district leaders are looking at making safety improvements in the near future to our school. We will be looking at restructuring the front office entrance to Firwood as well as putting up security fencing to enclose our school. I will keep in communication with all of you as soon as I have more information.
Student Tardies/Absences
A friendly reminder that our school day begins at 8:50am and ends at 3:30pm. Please do your best to have your child at school on time. Also please refrain from picking up your child/children before 3:30pm. We have had a number of tardies and students being picked up early. With much more rigorous academic standards, it's imperative that your child/children are in school the entire day. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Be aware...
We have been having cars getting broken into in our school parking lot during the school day. The thief is smashing out windows and taking valuables. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and remove all valuables from your car-even if you are coming into the school for a minute. It only takes a thief seconds to steal something!
Friendly Reminder: Check our website often for current information and news from the principal.

Welcome back, volunteers! |
With the holidays behind us and the new-year ahead, we hope you will continue to help us provide an outstanding education to our students.
As we kick of the new-year we want to remind you about your most significant responsibility as a volunteer - upholding confidentiality at all times. As you perform your volunteer duties you may become aware of confidential information that could include a student's academic performance, behavior, health, disabilities or other related matters. Please do not disclose such confidential information with anyone outside of school staff members. If you have a comment or concern about a student, please discuss it with the student's teacher in private. If you then feel your concern needs to be discussed further, please contact the principal. We sincerely appreciate all of our volunteers acting ethically and professionally! |
