Our goal is to raise dollars for research, service and education within the Healing Touch community. Grants are making a difference in energy medicine research in hospitals, universities and communities. Your Voice Makes a Difference!
Legislative Update
 7779 people so far have signed our petitions and told Colorado that alternative therapies matter!On April 23 we sent an email out to our Healing Touch Community to ask for support in supporting the Colorado Energy Workers and to protect the right to practice and receive Natural Healing Therapies in Colorado. A Colorado Bill, HB 16-1320, had been created to in part revise regulations around massage, but was edited in the Colorado legislature in ways that were detrimental to the practice of alternative and complementary healing therapies in Colorado. Through quick action and a committed community of professional healers we were able to have a positive influence and have gotten our voice heard. There was a great deal of negotiation over language in the bill. It was initially proposed leaving the safeguards that protect the right to practice and receive alternative therapies. Those safeguards were removed in later proposed revisions. That is where Healing Touch Professional Association (HTPA) and our sister organization Energy Medicine Professional Insurance (EMPI) got involved. The legislation actually went a far as regulating under massage all therapies not defined as massage or otherwise licensed at one point. Our quick action and your voices sent the message to the Colorado legislature that Energy Medicine is a unique field and that people's access to alternative therapies must be maintained. We created a petition asking to stop the legislation, when it was in its most damaging form. We created a second petition after the language was softened. Right now the legislation has been passed by both houses in Colorado and is awaiting the Governor's signature. We are asking Governor Hickenlooper not to sign this bill through both of the petitions, because this legislation still damages the important protections for the practice of alternative therapies that were created in Colorado's Natural Health Consumer Protection Act. You can Act right now to help Governor Hickenlooper see that Alternative Therapies are important and that this legislation should not become law. Sign the petitions if you haven't already. You are making a difference!This kind of legislation is coming up more and more, and as professionals we have a challenge to meet in the future, to create the kind of legislation that protects our work, and the public's right to alternative therapies! Article on Healing Touch in Journal of Holistic Nursing
Title: Examination of the Perceptions of Registered Nurses Regarding the Use of Healing Touch in the Acute Care Setting  Abstract: Given the current transformation of traditional health care to provide more integrative and complementary modalities, health systems are implementing new programs and services to meet consumer and provider needs. One such integrative modality, Healing Touch, with a foundation in holistic nursing, is a gentle therapy that uses touch to promote health and well-being by balancing the human energy system. This article describes the perceptions of registered nurses regarding the implementation of a Healing Touch training program at a multihospital health system. Five themes were identified: benefit to the patient, benefit to the nurse, holism beyond task orientation, integrating Healing Touch into acute care, and barriers and challenges. Nurses recognize the importance of creating caring-healing relationships and a holistic approach to care. Invitation to Submit a Healing Touch Research Study to be Presented at the ISSSEEM Research Symposium
 24th ISSSEEM Conference ~ Heart-to-Heart Science SymposiumSeptember 21, 2016, Unity Village, MissouriBased on your research and/or clinical experience in biofield therapies and energy medicine, the ISSSEEM Research Symposium Program Committee invites you to submit an abstract for a research study/clinical case study/theoretical study/device paper to be presented at the ISSSEEM Research Symposium on Wednesday, Sept 21, 2016 at the Unity Village Campus, Lee's Summit, MO. This is a great opportunity to present your work and ideas to other clinicians and researchers in the field of subtle energies and energy medicine. We hope that you will plan to join us at this years' research symposium. Please submit your abstract (400 words max) online before June 30, 2016. You will be contacted by July 15 if your research/case study/theory paper is selected for presentation. All abstracts will be evaluated by a panel of peer reviewers. The submission link is: https://form.jotform.com/53204083767153. Abstracts will be published in the ISSSEEM Science Symposium Conference proceedings which will also be placed on the research symposium web site: www.issseemsciencesymposium.orgResearch papers will be eligible to submit for review in the International Journal of Healing and Caring and my be submitted to: www.ijhc.org with a $50 fee.
Requirements for Submission to the ISSSEEM Research SymposiumAll studies will consist of new material which has not been presented at an ISSSEEM conference and preference will be given to studies which include data which has never been previously presented.
1. All studies will be presented by people who did the study or are properly authorized to present the study by the studies original authors (IE: PI, co-PI).
2. All case studies will have individual consents from the person who was the case study client.
3. All human studies (clinical or basic science) will have had an institutional review (IRB) or an ethics review which meets state or national standards.
4. All investigators doing human studies will be properly qualified to do human studies research which includes human studies protection training.
5. All investigators doing animal research will be properly qualified to do animal studies research which includes animal studies ethics training.
6. All studies of pre-existing cumulative clinical data must go through a retrospective data analysis human studies review and the person(s) from whom data is being used must be individually consented prior to the abstract submission.
7. Please include p values in all but case studies and theory papers.
8. Device studies are to be proof of concept, single case studies or clinical studies.
9. All theories will be presented by the original author or by a person approved by the author.
