Dear
We had more news to share with you this month!
First I wanted to take a moment and bring tribute to our founder Janet Mentgen. September 15 of this year marked the 10th anniversary of her passing. It is heart warming to realize that her vision of bringing energy healing through her own unique program, Healing Touch, continues today as her legacy. Janet had enough foresight and vision to design a program that would influence and touch people's hearts, and with a strong foundation the program remains sustainable. Today we see the work of Healing Touch being practiced all over the world.
It has been a blessing and honor to carry this important work forward and to continue to seek the best ways to make it available, for generations to come. As we grow with the times we plan to expand our delivery of Healing Touch to include the growing audience available through the popular digital media sources. This is an opportunity to introduce Healing Touch to more people on-line, meeting them where they get their information, and sharing the benefits and principles of Healing Touch across the globe.
We also have a new product to share with you, mainly designed for practitioners and instructors to help introduce Healing Touch, and bring the students of tomorrow. We have created a new client brochure that features the Self Chakra Connection.
The Self Chakra Connection brochure is fashioned after the Self Chakra Connection wall poster, introduced last year, and that has been received so well. The brochure is a great informative tool to send your clients home with that they can actually use.
Lastly, we are pleased to be able to share with you the results of the HTPA Insurance Initiative committee report of the survey conducted over the summer on Healing Touch in Healthcare. Below you will see a link to the report. We will plan to repeat this survey next year.
Thank you for being part of this phenomenal and important work~ Healing Touch!

Healing Touch Eastern Regional Conference
|
Plan to join us....
We are thrilled to invite you to the beautiful city of Albany for the 6th Eastern Regional Healing Touch Conference as we come together in community to experience and explore "SPIRIT-FILLED HEALERS JOURNEYING TOGETHER."
The conference begins Friday, October 16, 2015 at 5:00 PM and ends Saturday October 17th at 6:00 PM. This journey will be a time of listening, sharing, and learning with others from the Healing Touch community.
Early bird prices available until Oct 1, 2015.
This year, we have booked two amazing women to be the keynote speakers. Cindy Palajac, from London, Ontario, is a Healing Touch Certified Instructor and has expertise in reflexology, sound healing, shamanic journeying and meditation. Her keynote presentation at the Albany conference is Sacred Hands, Sacred Hearts.
Through this experiential presentation you will learn how your Sacred Hands make a difference when you share Healing Touch in the world. You will also discover what brings you JOY in offering HT to others. Cindy will then teach us how to energize our hands with love through hand reflexology so that you can effectively use your sacred hands to heal yourself and your clients.
The second part of Cindy's presentation will focus on your Sacred Heart. Learn how your sacred heart is your magnetic center, how to identify barriers to your sacred heart and overcome them and how the heart is the key to healing. "Deep within the heart every mystery is hidden. Only from the soul, can the soul draw its secrets. Rumi "
Our other keynote speaker is Barbara Evans. Barbara is an award winning author, transformational healing artist and the founder of Crystal Wings Healing Art. Her high vibrational art underpins a new approach to energy healing.
For over two decades Barbara has been immersed in the world of energy healing, crystals, sacred sound and sacred geometry as she was guided to find and explore new ways of living and being within the world that involved raising frequency and consciousness, which she sees as a major gateway to well-being at all levels of Body Mind and Spirit. She is also a certified Crystal Resonance Therapist, Reiki Master and Shiatsu Practitioner.
Barbara's keynote will be a two part presentation. First is The Art of Raising Frequency: Setting the Vibration for Healing. Learn the history of the Mandala: origins, significance and known benefits and how to incorporate the use of the Mandala to assist with the raising of frequency and consciousness.
The second part of Barbara's presentation is The Art of Raising Frequency: Coloring with Intention. Discover how the use of Mandalas as a self-care technique for care-givers.
Besides the opportunity to learn from these wonderful teachers, I am excited for us to be together as a Healing Touch Community! It is such a blessing to be together, like a big family reunion, sharing common interest in the healing arts, and our shared intention to share this work of Healing Touch.
We have kept the conference cost as low as we could to bring in these wonderful speakers and to provide the space to meet as well as lunch and snacks. If you register now you will save by getting the Early Bird pricing (until Oct 1).
Major support for the conference and its organization come to us once again from Sister Rita Jean DuBrey and the support of the local Healing Touch Community including Sr. Christine La France, and Janet Korwan. They always make everyone feel so welcome and connected. Be sure to get this gathering on your schedule.
Looking forward to connecting and being together soon!

Healing Touch Clinical Use Survey
|
The HTPA Insurance Initiative Committee along with Healing Touch Program sent out a Healing Touch Healthcare Survey to Healing Touch practitioners last July. The collected data will be used with the application to the American Medical Association for a specific Healing Touch CPT code. The results were interesting and very useful. Click here to see the results report. Over 400 practitioners responded, allowing for a significant amount of data to be collected. We are very appreciative of these practitioners taking the time to share their experience. We felt it important to share the data collected with them and to say Thank You. In addition, we think the results have benefit beyond this application and want to share the information with the entire Healing Touch Community. The data outlines what Healing Touch is being used for, how it is being used, how the request for a session is initiated and much more. . We see this information being used to support the use of Healing Touch and in initiating new Healing Touch programs in healthcare facilities.

Healing Touch Research
|
Recent published research supports the use of massage and Healing Touch in Neonates for pain management
Summary by Kathy Moreland
Management of pain in newborns is very challenging for the healthcare teams that work with these infants. A University of Cincinnati team recently published a study exploring the impact of massage (M) and Healing Touch (HT) on neonatal pain using four pre/post outcome measures associated with pain including therapist-rated pain, presentation of the infant (sleep to agitated), infant's heart rate and oxygen saturation.
The study was done retrospectively and used paired sample t-tests to examine the association between pain ratings for infants who received M and HT. 186 infants were included in the study which means that there was a large database to pull form. Of those 186- 62% received both M & HT. From pre and post therapy significant changes were seen in these infants' heart rates p <. 001, oxygen saturation; P<.001, therapist reported pain; p < .001, and presentation p <.001. These changes would have been perceived as signs of improved pain in the infants.
These observed improvements suggest that massage and Healing Touch used in combination may be useful therapies to improve comfort and reduce pain in neonates. No untoward effects were reported.
Important points about this type of study (as compared to a randomized clinical trial) include: there was no control group (infants acted as own control), and there was no control of variables (time of day, pain medication etc) or method of delivery of Massage or HT. In some ways this makes the study more pragmatic as the practitioners would have delivered the therapies based on their actual energy based assessment of need vs. a "prescribed" dose or method of massage or HT.
For those working in Neonatal environments, this study is worth sharing with decision makers about the inclusion of integrative therapies in neonatal environments. As always, more research is needed to support these conclusions.

Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation Updates
Thank you Barbara Cordell of Grant Committee
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Barbara Cordell, RN, PhD for her valuable service, as she steps down from the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation Grant committee. She served as a grant reader for the past 5 years, providing summaries, as well as her thoughts and insights to the various grant submissions that she was asked to review. Although she was not a board member, her behind the scenes role as a part of the Grant committee is not to be understated. Dr. Cordell's expertise was highly valued in this position. We wish her well as she continues to balance her current roles as Dean of Health Sciences at Panola College, Carthage TX as well as her involvement as an instructor with RJ Buckle's Clinical Aromatherapy program!

Nepal Earthquake Relief Team Updates
We sincerely appreciate everyone who has participated in our earthquake relief efforts. Our Healing Touch Community came together to help our brothers and sisters in Nepal during their natural disaster. Together, we raised $17,300 and sent to Nepal for HT Education, Service and Outreach. Currently in Nepal, some things have stabilized while much is still in crises. Aparna has come to the States for a HT level 4 Instructor training and for a break from earthquake response. Bonnie Morrow, an HTWF past president, will assist Aparna with the Colorado class in October. This will greatly help Aparna upon her return to Nepal to continue spreading Healing Touch. It's not too late to contribute to this much-needed effort. Please click the button below for any contribution you feel led.
