Director Letter

Dear ,
Welcome to the 2nd quarter HTPA Newsletter! The past three months have been a whirlwind of activity for HTPA! We managed to produce the HTPA 2014 Annual Report, be a part of interviews with Karen Drucker, Dr. Penny Burdick, and Laurie Keene, attendance at the 9th annual California Symposium in San Diego, represent HTPA at the AHNA Conference in Branson MO., AND hold the HTPA Annual Membership Meeting - whew!
Dawn Warnaca and Sue Walker at AHNA Conference
I also got to mix business with pleasure, by visiting Sharon Scandrett- Hibdon's equestrian farm in Iowa. Sharon helps Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation (HTWF) by making a donation - of a 5-day visit to her farm - available at auction at HTPs worldwide conference. What fun it was to ride horses, hike the tallest biking bridge in the U.S. and simply bask in the homegrown feel of the Iowa cornfields. Heartfelt hospitality and delighftful storytelling, It was fun to hear stories of the early days with Janet, and also inspiring to see that Healing Touch is something that continues as a heart centered work in the lives of the Healing Touch elders in our community. Thank you Sharon for the vacation and encouagement!

The Pacific Northwest was in the national news recently, and as is the current trend with national news, sure enough it was bad news. The New York Times reported the predictions about a long overdue West Coast earthquake, and the devastation expected from not only the earthquake, but resulting tsunami. The timing seems more than interesting, in light of a recent grant HTPA has applied for through HTWF. If approved, HTPA would have a line item donation account open, to help HTP students and practitioners receive training for Emergency Response (training, deployment, and donations). HTPA currently has a grant potential available to help support Military Outreach - in any number of ways. If you would like more information about how you can donate to, or apply for Military Grant funding for your activity, please contact director@htprofessionalassociation.com

Insurance Initiative Update
|
The HTPA Insurance Initiative committee sent out a survey on Healing Touch Clinical Use on July 14, 2015. This survey was created to help find out just how prevalent Healing Touch has become, so that we can use that as justification when we are applying with the American Medical Association (AMA) to get Healing Touch added as a reimbursable service.
We have asked everyone in our HT community that is using Healing Touch professionally or knows of a facility that uses Healing Touch to participate in this survey. We are very pleased with the participation so far and the results are enlightening.
To date 405 individuals have completed the survey!
Here is just a taste of the details from the survey we have gathered.
- 57% reported that they provide HT in a Healthcare setting
- 39% said that HT is part of their regular job.
- 79% of request for HT comes from Patients and 47% are family requested.
- 5 people reported billing for HT through insurance
- Pain is the #1 (91%) reason people seek HT Treatments and stress and anxiety are close seconds.
If you have not taken the survey yet, we would appreciate your participation.

VETERANS STAND DOWN: Coeur d'Alene, ID
|
Sharon Fletcher, RN-BC, HTCP/I, CCHT shared recently about the May 9 th, 2015 Coeur d'Alene Idaho Veterans Stand Down. There were four HT volunteers, with a total of 20 hours of service provided. 22 people received sessions, 16 of those were Veterans. Interesting enough, 21 of the 22 people receiving Healing Touch reported pain prior to their session, 12 of these reported a 50 to 100% decrease in their pain! 20 of the 22 also reported stress and/or anxiety before the session, with again, 12 again, reporting a 50 to 100% reduction of symptoms.
The most frequent response was how relaxing the Healing Touch session are. Sharon felt that the presence of Healing Touch added a "positive element of holistic healing" to the Stand Down.
THANK YOU Sharon, and your volunteers for giving your time and talents to our Veterans and their families.
REMEMBER: Volunteer Aprons are available upon request - these are very helpful in uniting your volunteer team at any Healing Touch Volunteer Event - send your request EARLY to: info@htprofessionalassociation.com

Kathy reports that this group has chosen to use articles or techniques out of Energy Magazine as a focus when they get together. One month they learned the Self-Mind Clearing and another they studied Connecting Heaven and Earth both from the March/April 2015 issue.
This Chapter is going to have a SOCIAL in August - calling it: "A Summer afternoon of Tranquility".

AUSTRALIA
We now have two Australia HTPA Chapters - one on each side of the country. Welcome - Brisbane! If you would like to send news from your chapter across the globe, please write to Margo at: mar0yoga@bigpond.com
The Albany HTPA Chapter reports that with generous donations, they have purchased two treatment tables for use at Chapter gatherings! Gillian (the Chapter Lead) also reporting that their group regularly uses Skype to connect with students too far away to attend the meetings. What a great idea as it is so important for those geographically "isolated to be encouraged and reassured that they ARE a part of of the bigger picture for HTP."
