 Welcome Letter

Dear

Happy end of May! Can you believe how time is flying! We have been so busy here at the HTP office that I missed our April Community Newsletter. I hope this issue will bring you up to date on the happenings in the HT community.

The most exciting news this month, was the release of an EXCELLENT 9 minute video produced by the US Department of Veterans Affairs on Healing Touch being utilized in the VA. The video gives credit to Janet Mentgen, a Navy Nurse, for the modality, shows how Healing Touch works, how it is being used in the VA and how it is supported by the medical staff. We are so proud that Healing Touch is being utilized in the VA system, and we recognize the enormous value that Healing Touch has in helping Veterans.

We posted the video on our HTP Facebook page. If you view it there please share and leave a comment on this outstanding video. The more we share and comment the further will spread on Facebook! You can also see it on YouTube.

The other big update I have is to share with you the progress of the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation (HTWF) Relief for Nepal. With the news of the 7.8 earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015, the board members of HTWF quickly put together a relief fund to support one of our Healing Touch instructors Aparna Bhatta, HTCP/I lives and teaches in Kathmandu, Nepal.

HTP and HTWF have sent email communications to our community and through your contributions HTWF has raised over $12,700 in total funds.  Donations totaling $10,000 have already been sent to Nepal to provide daily essentials for Aparna and to provide Healing Touch to the Nepalese people.

For more details about the fund go to the HTWF website. Below in the newsletter is an article about the first Level 4 class held a few weeks before the earthquake.

This community support and the spreading of Healing Touch to is the manifestation of our Healing Touch Program vision:

"Inspiring and Empowering Humanity to achieve Holistic Health, Healing and Well Being."

We ask you to see if this resonates with you, and join us in inspiring and empowering humanity, and always remember that our vision is to inspire and empower you as well!

Lisa G Thank you for being part of this phenomenal and important work!

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey

A kiddley divey too, Wooden shoe!"

~written by Milton Drake in 1943

Jacob and Cadbury

I often sing this childhood ditty when messing about with Spring Lambs. I get a quizzical look from the lambs and neighbors alike! Nonsense words that can make sense if you hear them like this: Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, a kid will eat ivy too... wouldn't you?

The HTPA Annual Meeting will be held by phone conference on June 25th. If you  have not yet filled out the annusl Member Survey, PLEASE do. We are sincerely interested in your opinions about the future of HTPA.

Februarys HTPA's Interview call was with Karen Drucker: ---

The call was nothing short of inspiring. Karen's gift is her heart-focused music. While Karen offers up to her audience something completely different than we as HTP's do, her business needs are very similar to the Healing Touch Practitioner. Karen has to market - she must let a portion of the world know what she does, how she does it, and when she is available. Karen also has to prioritize her time and schedule. Making time to not only work in service to others - but also remembering to Self Care.  One of the things Karen reminded us about was "Saying no, to be available for the greater yes". She explained that over the years she has learned to listen to her body about what to say yes to, and how to keep grounded around requests that simply don't feel right. Karen also shared with us her business Vision, and goals, and a wonderful reminder to have FUN as we continue to do the work we are called into. This call was recorded and available for you to listen to when you have the time on the HTPA website

This month I had the honor to interview Dr. Penny Burdick about her amazing and inspirational shift from traditional medicine to Energy Healing. Penny honestly and openly shared about her 30 plus years in traditional care, over seas volunteer projects and her in home patient care practice in rural Washington State. She also helped us understand how Healing Touch, self care, and listening to her body has made a tremendous change in her daily life. This call is also recorded and available for you to listen to on the HTPA web site, if you missed it.

Looking ahead on future Interviews - which are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month: I will have the privilege to interview the Dean of the Barbara Brennen School, Laurie Keene on June 11th. I hope you can join me. The HTPA Interviews are just one of the benefits of your HTPA membership. These interviews are FREE for HTPA members and a way to keep connected, informed and inspired around Energy Medicine.

Remember too, our open dialogued CHATS on the last Monday of every month. I'm on vacation in May, taking my mother on another one of her bucket list vacations - this year to the Grand Canyon. Penny Burdick has agreed to host this call, and it would be lovely for you to support her in dialogue. The opening subject is slated to be: Practice Groups, do they help, and how. From there the conversation can shift as the need and interest presents. These CHATS are a safe and simple way of staying connected with students and practitioners across the country, to discuss anything of interest, concern, or excitement in the Healing Touch Community.

There's no greater investment." --Stephen Covey

CHAPTER UPDATES:  Thank you so much CHAPTER LEADS for sending in your monthly updates on what is happening in your neck of the woods. Below are just a few examples of what various chapters are finding useful in their gatherings.  If you are not sending in your updates, PLEASE let us know what is going on - inspire and encourage others with tidbits of your successes!

Healing Touch of Kentucky had a small group attendance, and used their time discussing classes that will take each person to the next level of their HT education, and how to attract new participants in their Chapter. Together they practiced The Scudder technique, having opportunities to both give and receive a treatment.

WELCOME - Colorado Springs Local Chapter - with Melinda Chichester as the lead. She sent in a letter of intent last month sharing her vision "...is to have an Energy Therapy Collaborative Community, which supports all energy modalities."

Southern Nevada HPTA Chapter reported that their first meeting included a Body Prayer demonstration as a possible form of self care, and at their second they invited a local Sound Healer to give a demonstration using Tibetan and crystal bowls and bells.

Schenectady Chapter of Healing Touch Practitioners:

Monthly meetings are held in the evening from 7 to 9pm in the day surgery area of the hospital. It is a practice session, which started with 3 people and has increased to 5 regular attendees. They have started an Integrated complementary therapy department in connection with the pastoral care department, which is a volunteer opportunity for healers. The president of is also involved, While Healing Touch is the focus of practice, this chapter includes healers with other modalities including Reiki, meditation and Therapeutic Touch.  "I have come to realize I am not the only healer in my facility after 40 years as a nurse and 17 as a HT practitioner. I am excited."

BUSINESS TIP for May: Schedule a SELF CARE session for yourself.Yes, taking care of YOU just makes good business sense. When you are in the business of caring for others, making referrals to clients for self-care, and balancing work, home and all your responsibilities it is essential that you remember to model the care that is needed by your mind, body and spirit.

Healing Touch Internship Program with HWP
HWP 2

Healing Touch Internship Program

Healing Warriors Program (HWP) is excited to announce the launch of our Healing Touch Internship Program for Healing Touch Level 4 students.  Interns will work with Service members seeking therapy treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress. Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) is a common and persistent problem in the military populations. Despite all best efforts to treat PTS in our military, it often remains untreated in a substantial number of military personnel who may not meet clinical cutoffs for PTS immediately upon return from deployment or who may choose not to seek treatment.

Our goal is to offer an effective, non-narcotic option for Post-Traumatic Stress that will positively contribute to the Service Member's wellness goals and quality of life.

Interns will have the opportunity to gain experience working with our Service Member community while receiving support for fulfillment of certification requirements. Interns will work under supervision from HWP Healing Touch Director, Jackie Cooper.

Location: All sessions will be delivered during standard business hours at the Healing Warriors Program clinic located at:

Stuart Professional Park,

1136 E. Stuart St., Suite 4202,

Fort Collins, Colorado 80525

Healing Touch Level 4 in Nepal

Healing Touch Level 4 class April 2015 in Nepal.
First Healing Touch

Level 4 class held in Nepal

By Tim McConville, HTCP/I

Pam McConville, Ingrida Kancans-McLaughlin, our fellow Healing Touch Certified Practitioner, and I just came back from a delightful 19 days in Nepal with Aparna Bhatta, our local host who has been instrumental in bringing Healing Touch to Nepal. The Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation (HTWF) helped sponsor our trip to teach Nepal's first Healing Touch Level 4 class and help Aparna with outreach and community projects. We are grateful for the many ways we were able to contribute beyond holding the class.

Anyone who has been to developing countries knows that Western ideas about schedules and plans are meaningless. Almost immediately after our arrival, the schedules changed and things happened in ways guided by spirit and orchestrated by Aparna.

The Level 4 class was held April 4-6, in Nagarkot. The location was in a beautiful mountain area. It was a bit more rustic than the typical retreat setting most of us have experienced here. We taught in English and Aparna translated. The Level 4 class had 11 students that received their completion certificates. Two other students were present for a portion of the class. By the end of the class, the group had bonded well and was doing good work in the sessions.

As the students move toward Level 5, the homework will be more of a challenge for them, but they plan to work in a group to get the tasks accomplished. We will provide Aparna with examples and coaching from afar. Penny Burdick, HTCP/I, plans to return and will provide additional mentoring.

We had some very positive encounters with a local mayor and some of the highest ranking public figures. We became aware that if the thinking of the public officials changes, it can change the course of an entire country. We worked with children, women's groups, a rehabilitation organization, a college and individuals for healing sessions and instruction. I trust that we gave many people skills that can help them hold their balance and better cope with the recent earthquake disaster. Aparna and Level 4 students are now holding health camps in several of the hardest hit areas of the country, providing Healing Touch as well as helping with other needs. That is an impressive community project that can be used as part of the Level 5 homework, especially knowing that some students from the class have damaged homes themselves!

The activities that manifested while we were there were truly phenomenal. While we   Westerners were often the center of attention, Aparna was wisely leveraging our presence to help continue the expansion of Janet's work. Aparna very much believes in and manifests Janet's goal of having Healing Touch in every home, school and hospital. She is working from the bottom up. We held three introductory classes while we were with her, reaching over 100 people. Each class was amazing in the way it unfolded and the students' receptiveness to the Healing Touch concepts and techniques. One class was arranged on a moment's notice, attended by 35 children and several adults. Excerpts of this class were broadcast to Nepalese around the world. Another spontaneous class was organized for us by the executive and faculty of a college.

The activities from this trip were broadcast on a couple of internet television shows. The target audience is Nepalese people around the world. Approximately half a million people watch these shows.

The five-minute segment showing Healing Touch starts about minute 12:00

(Gurkha channel news 17-04-2015 Link ) Forward to minute 19:25 to see our segment.

Aparna has an amazing connection of resources and people to assist those in need. She has a huge heart and truly devotes her life to helping humanity. Healing Touch is just one of the many ways she helps people. She has trained over 300 people in the first three levels of Healing Touch, never charging for classes. She is very active and instrumental in women's health education, rural hospitals, women's rights and many more efforts.

In spite of the busy schedule, we were able to provide a number of healing sessions for people in need and do some tourist activities. In an effort to practice self-care, we were able to experience some of the local favorites such as Ayurveda massage, Auricular acupressure, reflexology/leg massage, traditional Nepali massage and Shirodhara.

We were returning to the States just when the earthquake changed everything. HTWF is raising funds to help support the efforts of Aparna and the Nepalese Healing Touch community. They already have quickly put funds to use helping those who are injured or homeless. I know that any relief sent in that direction will be used for the neediest situations and most worthy ways of helping the Healing Touch community stay strong in order to rebuild a better Nepal.

HTWF is still gathering funds to support Aparna in Nepal. See the HTWF website for more details.
