Director Letter
|
Dear ,
Greetings, it has been awhile since we have written to our members of HTPA. I am pleased to let you know as your Acting Executive Director of HTPA we are getting back into the swing of things and picking up in our communication with you.
First I would like to say, "Happy Birthday HTPA!" - Are you aware, that HTPA is 7 years old! We have been an organization fully designed for YOU - as a Healing Touch student, practitioner and Instructor to Build, Support and Expand your Practice, for a full seven years as of April 1st, 2015. And it is because of you that this organization continues to thrive and bring support to our Healing Touch community.
I came on board as Acting Executive Director in mid February and am beginning to find my way. In this newsletter I will share with you just a bit about what I'm learning about HPTA and what we will be working toward.
First, let me tell you a little about me. I am a HTCP/I, teaching Level 1 and considering the training for Level 2 instruction. I have a 2 or 3 day a week private practice in a holistic health clinic, sharing the space with a chiropractor and medical marijuana facility. Medical and even recreational marijuana is now legal in Washington State. There are at least 15 bills are facing our state legislators this season surrounding this controversial topic, and the jury is still out on what the future may bring. However, what I have personally learned by working where I work - is very few, if any, are the typical drug addicts just looking for a legal high. These are people in pain. The owner of my clinic is committed to helping the medical marijuana patient's by offering complementary and holistic care beyond what cannabis offers.
I also coordinate the local Level 4/5 class, which was just held March 26-29 at a local Forestry Conference Center. We had 17 in the Level 4 class, and 12 Level 5 students! I was excited by how many were from the greater Pacific Northwest. Our community is growing.
I mentor as well, currently I have 6 active mentees, and will support a mentor group this year. I am one of the Instructors for the Mentor Training class, and have a practice group once a month in my home. I am the lead for our local HTPA Chapter group, and am part of a healing circle with four different types of healers at the local Senior Center once a month.
I am married to my first husband, Mike. We have two children, four grandchildren, and together live on a rural piece of property that we enjoy gentlemanly farming. This year, we have 7 chickens, a lamb, and our dog: Duke. My husband, Mike is a Level 4 Healing Touch student, taking the few year plan, he works full time as a Paper/Pulp mill superintendent, and has a deep interest in healing work along with essential oils. We enjoy working together, and will be volunteering this spring at the KaNeeTa Warm Spring tribal veterans circle next month.
I am pleased to bring you up dates on Healing Touch Professional Association!
Together, we are the
Heart of Healing Touch,
Dawn Warnaca, HTCP/I Acting Executive Director Healing Touch Professional Association director@htprofessionalassociation.com

Bill Summary
1/21/2015--Introduced.
Expanding Care for Veterans Act Directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) to develop a plan to expand the scope of VA's research and education on, and delivery and integration of, complementary and alternative medicine services. Requires the Secretary to carry out, through VA's Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation, a three-year program to: (1) assess the feasibility and advisability of integrating the delivery of complementary and alternative medicine services selected by the Secretary with other VA health care services for veterans, and (2) identify and resolve barriers to providing such services and integrating them with other VA health services. Requires such program to be conducted, at not fewer than 15 VA medical centers, by integrating the provision of complementary and alternative medicine services with other VA health care services provided to veterans who have a mental health condition, experience chronic pain, or have a chronic condition. Requires veterans' participation to be voluntary. Directs the Secretary to contract with a qualified independent entity for comprehensive studies of the barriers encountered by veterans in receiving, and by administrators and clinicians in providing, complementary and alternative medicine services through VA. Provides for the conduct of such studies through surveys of veterans and VA administrators and clinicians. Requires the Secretary to carry out a three-year program awarding grants to public or private nonprofit entities to assess the feasibility and advisability of using wellness programs to complement the provision of mental health care to veterans and family members who are eligible for readjustment counseling from VA.

Local HTPA Chapter Update
|
What is an HTPA Chapter?
To put it simply, it is at least one HTPA member (as lead), and any other members of your community that would like to band together to continue and support the work of Healing Touch. HTPA is here to help in any way we can. These can be a practice group, or a group wanting to raise funds to support volunteer projects, to a few people wanting to organize a regional conference! What would you like to do, and how can HTPA support you? Your group can decide if they want to elect officers, take minutes and create long term goals, or have low key gatherings that follow the energy and need of those in attendance. Go to the HTPA Web site, click on the Community Connections/Local Chapters
tab and read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to learn more.
To date we have 46 number of HTPA chapters in the United states and one Australia chapter.
If you would like to join a Chapter or start one, we invite you to click here to visit the Community Connections website.

Members Making News!
|
Linnie Thomas, HTCP/I, from Tigard, Oregon (near Portland) and the author of The Encyclopedia of Energy Medicine is diligently working on not just one, but two upcoming books as well as an update to the Encyclopedia.
One book, she tells me will be booklet that will help students and practitioners clearly be able to understand the Legality of Touch laws in every state across the USA.
Linnie has also been busy interviewing for her Who's Who In Healing Touch - though the title may end up quite different.
Linnie is also a gifted seamstress, and is often overwhelmed with bridal alterations during the wedding season, HTPA is excited about how she is continuing to make a difference in the Healing Touch community with her investigation and enthusiastic energy to tell stories, and find the facts!
