 Welcome Letter

Dear

Welcome to the February 2015 issue of the Healing Touch Community News.

There are, as always, numerous news and announcements from around our community, so be sure to read the community news so you can be up to date and see what is going on in Healing Touch in your area and around the world.

The greatest gift that I feel we share in Healing Touch is the gift of the connections that we are lucky enough to make. We each find friends that we didn't know we have, we find support that we didn't know we needed, and are able to give to others in ways with abilities that we often didn't even know we possess. This is all part of the connection that we make with each other as we experience Healing Touch, and bring it into our lives.

This month I have the huge privilege to announce one of those gifts, the gift of giving of oneself, that has been given to our community. I am pleased to announce that Dawn Warnaca has agreed to accept the role of Acting Executive Director of the Healing Touch Professional Association.

I'm sure that virtually everyone has seen Dawn hard at work already. I personally owe Dawn a huge "Thank You!" for her activity in HTPA over the last several years. She pioneered the Community Connections and has been an ongoing pillar of support, but I especially owe her thanks for her willingness to help out after the loss of Sharon Robbins. We needed someone who could maintain Sharon's responsibilities while we figured out how to move forward. We needed someone who could manage while we caught our breath. Dawn stepped forward, without hesitation, and gave us what we needed, and has done so with grace.

We all understand the importance of keeping the Association on track, and have managed that task, but in the process, we have grown and Dawn has grown. I am in a unique perspective to say that I can see what Dawn puts into to making every effort count, and I am impressed and I admire her. Most of all, I am happy to have made a deeper connection, and feel privileged to get to work with Dawn on a regular basis.

Together we have defined a role so that Dawn can move forward, beyond simply maintaining the association, into a role of working to actively move HTPA forward, and to allow her to bring her own unique abilities to the Association. We are keeping this an interim position at this time so that we can allow the position to develop as we move forward.

We have talked about the vision and potential of HTPA, and what can be achieved. The Vision of HTPA is "Healing Touch Practitioners are fully recognized as vital professionals in all aspects of health care."

We agree that the recognition of practitioners is the key, but Dawn's vision is more than just acceptance in healthcare. She told me she wants to see Healing Touch as available as coffee shops are now! Wow, what a great image!

You can hear Dawn "In Action" in March as she hosts the HTPA Business Support "Live" Interview with Linda Smith talking about "Energy Healing and Essential Oils" March 12, 2015, and again on the monthly "Let's Chat" Call on March 30, 2015.

Here are a few more of the highlights of what you will find in this issue of Community News.

Required Reading!

If you haven't gotten a chance to look at the January/February issue of Energy Magazine , take a moment for yourself and look it over. I'd especially like to recommend the article by Dr. James Oshman, "Energy Medicine the Scientific Basis" (page 19-24) which gives some insights into the second edition of his book by the same name. According to Kathy Moreland, (Chair of the Healing Touch Research Advisory Council)  this article needs to be required reading, and I agree completely! It contains an overview of some the developments in the Energy Medicine world since his original book was released, and it gave me the positive message that we are not alone in bringing Healing Energy to the world, and that the Field is expanding!

Stay involved, be sure to watch for events and plan to attend what you can. In particular watch for local events and activities. In this issue there are listings for community gatherings, workshops, and conferences in Plymouth, MN; San Diego, CA; and Nanaimo, BC Canada, and in particular if you are a Nurse, be sure to consider the upcoming American Holistic Nurses Association conference in Branson, MO in June. It would be great to have a large HTP community presence there to show our support for AHNA and for Cynthia Hutchison, who will be presenting for Healing Touch Program this year.

Be sure to keep checking the HTP website and Community News as more events are scheduled and added all the time!

Our vision at Healing Touch Program is, "Inspiring and Empowering Humanity to achieve Holistic Health, Healing and Well Being." We ask you to see if this resonates with you, and join us in inspiring and empowering humanity, and always remember that our vision is to inspire and empower you as well!

Lisa G Thank you for being part of this phenomenal work!

"To accomplish the grand, you have to focus on the small"
~ Pete Carroll, Coach of the Seattle Seahawks

Congratulations -  New England Patriots! As a Seahawk fan, I have so enjoyed the energy  and excitement around a winning local sports team. The sporting myths and stories cross into surprising walks of life. Annie Reneau blog: 12th Man Mom: Why the Seahawks make me a better parent is a delightful look at Coach Pete Carroll's game winning philosophies transformed into day to day parenting ideals. While Reneau's ten bits of wisdom don't exactly line up with the Ten Step Sequence of a Healing Touch session, I still found them a worth read. Click Here  to read Renau's ten bits of wisdom.

"Of course we want to win every game, but winning forever is more about realizing your potential and making yourself as good as you can be. Realizing that is a tremendous accomplishment, whether it's in football or in life." ~  Pete Carroll

Realizing Your Potential: Healing Touch Professional Association is dedicated to helping students, practitioners, and Instructors of Healing Touch realize the potential our training offers - as self care, as a way to care for family and friends, and as a way to step out into the community as a professional energy medicine practitioner offering a scientifically based energetic modality that has been proven effective.

I have found Pete Carroll quotes inspiring. As newly appointed Acting Executive Director of Healing Touch Professional Association, I have so much to learn about realizing my potential. I am honored and excited to step into this position. Together, as a membership, we can realize the potential for Healing Touch Program and our Professional Association. As we go forward, I ask for your help, guidance, and patience. A twelve-step program phrase comes to mind: "I can't, but together we can."

Please join me, as I begin with a focus on the small things - in order to accomplish the grand. I'm going to ask you to accomplish the grand, by focusing on the small.

I will suggest every month, a small way that YOU can build your professionalism around Healing Touch and your practice. This month: I will ask - Do you have a business card? If yes, GOOD FOR YOU! Take a look at it, re-evaluate the professional stand it offers, and ask the opinion of your clients, friends and family. Does your business card clearly state your Scope of Practice, title and contact information? Consider adding: 'Member: Healing Touch Professional Association" to your next order of business cards.

Also remember - you can use the back of your business card to express your philosophy or mission.

If you do not currently have a business card - I challenge you, this month to get one! Order just one box, make that professional commitment to having something with your name, your credentials (student of Healing Touch works!) and one line of vision, mission or inspiration that you can hand out and begin a conversation about Healing Touch, energy medicine, and your journey of 'winning forever'. A box of 100 cards cost about $10.00 through vistaprint

Consider as well, being a part of HTPA by tuning into our monthly interviews -

The 2nd Tuesday of every month, at 6 pm Pacific Time. This month we heard from Walle Adam-Gertz about Weaving HT into conservative environments --- without sounding like a kook! Walle was delightful and encouraging around how to language our work for professional acceptance within the hospital setting. Next month, (March 12) Linda Smith will discuss Energy Healing and Essential Oils. The calls are free for HTPA members and a benefit of YOUR Healing Touch Professional Association.

Thank you, and I look forward to serving this community.

Dawn Warnaca, HTCP/I
Acting HTPA Executive Director

Healing Touch Insurance Initiative Committee Update

HTPA Insurance Initiative Committee Report
By Holli Brown, Co-Chair

The Healing Touch Insurance Initiative Committee (HT II) has been hard at work, following a brief reset, after the passing of our champion and sponsor, Sharon Robbins. I know she is happy to see we are back on board and on track!

Currently we are working towards getting a National Provider Identifier Number (NPI#). The NPI number provides the taxonomy for Healing Touch with the CMS - The Center for Medicare and Medicaid, and will allow Healing Touch Certified Practitioners to have their own unique taxonomy identifier. Gail Cox (HT II Co-Chair) and Margaret Nies (HTP Staff) are currently completing the NPI# application for submission by March 1, 2015. Please refer to the Nov/Dec 2014 Energy Magazine article "NPI Number for Healing Touch" for more details. The NPI review board meets three times a year so we should have our NPI # in 2015.

This is the first step in a series of applications that move us towards our vision of having 3rd party reimbursement for Healing Touch, as well as enabling work in hospitals as a member of the healing team. It is very exciting!

Our next step is establishing a CPT Code (Current Procedural Terminology) with the American Medical Association. This application process is a detailed and lengthy one. We anticipate working though 2015 and possibly into 2016 on this application and submission process. More updates to follow as we dig into the application itself.

Please take a moment to visit our new webpage so you can check back often for updates and important links. All our past articles published in Energy Magazine are on this page as well. It is the Resources tab on the HTPA website at http://www.htprofessionalassociation.com/insurance-initiative-committee

As always, we welcome your help and ideas towards our vision and goals, please email us at [email protected]

It's That Time of Year Again - Insurance Renewal!

We are pleased to announce that you can now renew your Professional and General Liability insurance for your practice for the April 2015-2016 policy year. The policy's coverage and premium cost remain the same as last year's.

This year we are excited about our NEW online "Express Renewal" application. The online application allows us to process your renewal faster as well as provides a more secure way to pay. You will have the option to pay by credit card or by check.

Policy holders - Your current insurance policy will expire on April 1, 2015.
In order to maintain continuous coverage your insurance premium must be received no later than March 31, 2015. If your renewal is received after that date, there will be a lapse in coverage.

The links to renew your insurance are also available on the HTPA website

We sincerely thank you for choosing HTPA for your insurance provider. We hope you agree that we have been successful in providing you valuable benefits at an affordable price.

We look forward to another year of providing for your insurance needs.
