Wellness on Your Plate

 Welcome Letter

Dear  ,

As the holiday season approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude at Healing Touch Program for your continued support and enthusiasm for Healing Touch. It is our loving and heart-centered community who makes our jobs a pleasure and keeps the work of Healing Touch so successful.

I like sending our December Community News issue on December 18th, as it is my mother's, Janet Mentgen, founder of Healing Touch, birthday anniversary. We miss her physically, but we know that she is with us energetically!

I would also like to mention the passing of our dear friend and colleague Sharon Robbins this year on August 17, 2014 at our HTP Worldwide Conference in Chicago. We know that she has joined Janet and Dorothea on the other side and is supporting the program in the spiritual realm. If you have not see the tribute we created for Sharon I invite you to take a few minutes and see the wonderful things that her friends have said about her. Sharon's Tribute. We celebrated her life on November 22, 2014 at a lovely ceremony that the San Diego community organized. Karen Drucker joined us in celebrating and honoring our dear friend.

We have had several achievements for HTP this year that we celebrate - see Cynthia Hutchison's 2014 Review below in this newsletter.

Please note that the HTP office will be closed from December 24 and will reopen January 5th. We're all taking time off to be with our family and friends before what's sure to be an incredible 2015.

Lisa G May your holiday season and the New Year be filled with joy, happiness, growth, and success.

With Gratitude and Love,

Lisa Signature

Healing Touch Educational - 2014 Review

Dear Healing Touch Community,

What an amazing year it's been for Healing Touch Program! I'd like to remind you of a few of our educational achievements from this year. We started out 2014 with being awarded national accreditation in the field of health care with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) in January. This was a four year journey of dedication and demonstrating HTP's excellence and professionalism. You can proudly share this statement: "Healing Touch Program is the only continuing education program in energy medicine which holds not only one, but two, national accreditations!"  Our first accreditation was with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) back in 2011. Before that, our nursing CE contact hours were provided by the Colorado Nurses Association.

This year also brought the completion of the curriculum revisions for the all five levels of the core curriculum. All the notebooks have been made more comprehensive and professional, with many additional articles within the main sections and within the appendices, providing more than 800 pages of text for students and practitioners. We have received ongoing rave reviews for the level of professionalism, clarity and flow.

The mentorship program has been strengthened with a revised online and live course, as well as hiring Franny Harcey as Lead Mentor, and adding an online Mentor portal site that has a Mentor Forum page, support material, newsletter and quarterly teleconference. This new portal will be released in January 2015 to all HTCPs. Janna Moll has expanded and updated the Mentorship Course which offers 27 Continuing Education contact hours and will be offered twice in 2015 - January and September.

To support our instructors in providing our high quality worldwide standardized educational program, HTP has also produced Instructor Training Videos where they can view modules to review and be updated on the various blocks of curriculum from Levels 1 and 2. Level 3 is being released by the end of this month. The instructors have rated the instructional/review videos as overall excellent. HTP plans to continue to create more online instructional modules to support instructors to be the best they can be.

The 2 CD set: Healing Touch Meditations: Guided Practices to Awaken Healing Energy for Yourself and Others (by Cynthia Hutchison), continues to be a very popular product, now in its fourth year of Sounds True Publications success.  We now have four products through Sounds True, a highly respected holistic education production company, helping to bring Healing Touch Program to thousands more across the world.

Healing Touch Japan has been growing by leaps and bounds thanks to Rumi Hashimoto, HTCP/I and Katrina Habata, HTCP. They have brought HTP class Levels 1 - 4 to over 500 nurses in Japan over the last two years.

We could not have accomplished these achievements without the support and dedication of so many instructors, coordinators, practitioners and students. As staff and leaders of HTP, Lisa Gordon and I wish to heartfully thank you for all that you have done to bring healing and compassion to so many around the world. We look forward to 2015 being another year of significant accomplishment to our worldwide community as we continue to manifest more and more of our vision...."Healing Touch in every home, health care facility, school and hospital"! Stay tuned!!

With a grateful heart and wishes for many blessings during this Season of Light and Holy Nights,

Cynthia Hutchison, DNSc, RN, HTCP/I

HTPA - Community Connections
The View from my row in the HTPA garden
By Dawn Warnaca, HTCP/I

Do you know what outdoor gardener enthusiast do during the winter months? I am told that the very best gardeners keep gardening all year long. When winter weather keeps them inside, they think, dream, and talk about both the upcoming season, and the last. Healing Touch is what I am planning on cultivating once again this spring. I am poring over the Qualified Mentor Training Course, planning my office schedule, and gearing up for an upcoming Level 4/5.

What are your thoughts digging up? HTPA sponsors a monthly Let's Chat conversation designed to invite each and every one of you to share what you are pondering, excited about or have a question around.

These calls are the last Monday of every month, our conversation from the November 24th Let's Chat began around the topic of 'Working on family and friends over the holidays?"

We had over 20 people attend this call, and only a couple folks signed on to the webcast. I'm sorry - to those of you who tried to dial in and to some who even got a different recording. Seems we had a technical difficulty with the link, and many were unable to get through. Darn these details, just like a phone number, if you get just one wrong, the whole system runs resistance.

I did discover why some callers prefer the webcast to phoning in. One caller said it is easier to write in questions and comments, not having to be concerned with accidently speaking over another caller, and another commented that when listening on the webcast there is no concern about the family dog barking up a storm in the next room. I am beginning to accept that conference calling is getting more and more mainstream, and encourage you to TRY IT. Give yourself space to be uncomfortable, while you learn to navigate the *2 to raise your hand, and *6 to mute yourself. We are happy to have you on the call, whichever way you choose, but I personally love to hear your voice.

We did talk about working on family members, we heard from Sherri who did Healing Touch on her mother every day during a three-week visit, with lovely outcome that lasted weeks upon her moms return home. Other callers found it better to not be their spouses 'therapist' regardless of modality, for example massage, but instead to suggest that close relatives find their self care support outside of the family home. Another caller works almost exclusively with family, and having experienced three deaths (in the family) in little over a year, finds that Healing Touch is invaluable for her family dynamics.

Some use Healing Touch to help their children get settled down for sleep, or a just a few minutes of Magnetic Passes/Hands in Motion when they have woken up after a nightmare. Some discussion took place around boundaries and asking spouses and family members to set an appointment for Energy Work, and not expect to receive a session upon arriving home from a bad day at the office.

We were reminded about the available youtube video called Healing Power of Energy, a 12 minute video by Katie Gerhard. It is a wonderful introduction to what Healing Touch and Energy Work is, and how it works. Donna told us that she often refers potential clients to this video, and has found it helpful as an introduction before a first session.

Another caller brought up how important positive intention is in setting mutual goals. Instead of setting a goal of lowering pain, this caller suggests a positive intention, for example the opposite of pain for one client might be a sense of peace and joy. One suggestion was made to flip the scale - try using 0 for the negative and 10 is best. How would the client rate their sense of joy, with an intention of a better rate after the session.

Please join us at our next Chat on:
Monday December 29, 2015     6 pm Pacific / 7 pm Mountain / 8 pm Central / 9 pm Eastern
our opening topic will be: 2014 in review and 2015 New Years Resolutions. Join us!

This call is a live discussion aimed to support Healing Touch practice. These calls are open to all, for sharing HT stories and discussing practice issues. The goal is to provide time to share what is going on in local HT communities, ask questions of each other and learn from other practitioner's experiences.

Let NANDA Know What You Think

What does NANDA do?

NANDA provides the world's leading evidence-based nursing diagnoses for use in practice and to determine interventions and outcomes.

Why you matter - NANDA is working on terminology developments. A recent example has to do with the diagnosis: Disturbed Energy Field (00050), which was accepted into their terminology in 1994 (prior to implementation of the level of evidence criteria). In 2011, NANDA received concerns about this diagnosis from those who were concerned about the lack of evidence. NANDA is now revising their terms and this diagnosis is currently under review due to concerns raised regarding the scientific level of evidence available to maintain it within the taxonomy, so it may or may not remain in the next edition (2015-2017), depending on that review. When the diagnosis was accepted, NANDA did not have Level of Evidence Criteria, and they are reviewing all diagnoses that were grandfathered in to the taxonomy at the time that those criteria were adopted.

This term has not yet been removed from NANDA's list of nursing diagnoses. Feel free to comment on the website with your opinion on this, your voice may impact whether or not this term is removed from NANDA's list of diagnoses.

Join Cynthia Hutchison for the 2015 Shadowcliff Retreat with Sound Healing - June 20-23 at Grand Lake, CO.

At the 2014 Shadowcliff Retreat, Ken Goff, sound healing musician and gong master, provided three successive evening gong immersions plus gonging during some of our body prayer practices. We will gather with fellow holistic practitioners to share in conversation and practices while alternating with soulful quiet time to open to revelations about one's life and practice.
