 Welcome Letter

Dear  ,

Welcome to the September 2014 issue of the Community News. I would just like to start this letter and share my gratitude for every single member of our Healing Touch Community. In these last couple of months I have seen the best of who we are come shining out in so many different people and in so many different ways. I feel blessed to be working with you, and honored that you have chosen to do this work, and to truly be a part of the Healing Touch family as we work to achieve our vision of inspiring and empowering humanity to achieve holistic health, healing, and well being. Thank you!

The 2014 Worldwide Conference in Schaumburg, IL held on August 14-17, 2014. This conference will certainly never be forgotten. Monica Nebauer put it so well when she said to me recently that the conference experience included exhilarating highs and incredibly sad lows.
Lisa and Cynthia's Keynote:
"HTP's Legacy, Accomplishments and Vision for the Future"
The conference this year was well attended - final count 310 people from the HTP, HTA and ISHA communities gathered together to reconnect, celebrate, learn, laugh, sing, dance and support the foundations. Inspirational music was provided by the dynamic and talented Karen Drucker throughout the conference and she was instrumental in setting the tone for our gathering. I want to thank Margaret Nies, who was our conference lead this year, the staff, many volunteers and the presenters who put in a great deal of time and effort to make this conference our best conference yet.
Gratitude Tree

This year we celebrated our new accreditation with NCCA and we added the poster presentations and the Gratitude Tree. Please see the conference review by Betty Feldman below for more details. Cathy Andersen was again at our conference and took many awesome photos (about 1500) to capture these special moments. Click here to see photos from the conference.

Visiting with so many of the Healing Touch community members was incredible for me. I am so inspired by the stories that instructors, practitioners and students shared with me of how Healing Touch is being used in your communities and work places. Please take the time to share your stories with us by contacting us at [email protected].

With all of this positive and good experience, it is hard to balance the feeling of the loss we experienced by the unexpected death of our friend and leader Sharon Robbins. Sharon, full of life, sharing her love of Healing Touch and Healing Touch Professional Association, surprised us all with her exit of the physical world on the early morning hours on Sunday August 17, 2014. I feel blessed that her timing allowed us to be in community and to share in the news and to support each other. We are finishing up a special tribute issue for Sharon and will be sending that out through email in October. HTP and the Healing Touch community in San Diego are planning a "Celebration of Life" service for Sharon on November 22, 2014 in San Diego, CA. Details will be available in the tribute issue.

We are busy planning the next Worldwide Healing Touch Conference which we are planning for late summer of 2016 in San Diego. We will continue to sponsor our Regional Healing Touch Conferences in 2015 that will be held throughout the year across the US. Watch for updates in the Community News and on the HTP conference website.

As you can see by the rest of this community newsletter, HTP is as busy as ever. For those that were not at the conference there are a bunch of new products to share with you available through our HT Store.

We use this newsletter to also share with you opportunities to expand and add new training to your practice. I see HTP as a hub for information to what is happening in the field of Energy Medicine as well as a place to learn about new classes, products, events and resources.

The Community newsletter is here to support you in your work, and to offer the resources you need, and to help keep us connected. This is your community, and it really is beautiful!

Healing Touch Program 2014 Conference Review

A Conference Review In 245 words!

By : Betty Feldman, HTCP

Betty at the 2014 Conference

The Worldwide Conference of the Healing Touch Program, "The Journey Within:  A Garden of Possibilities", was held August 14 - 17, 2014 in Schaumburg, Chicago, Illinois.  Students, Certified Practitioners, and Instructors from 35 states, Japan, Australia, and Canada celebrated the accomplishment of being the first energy medicine education program to achieve NCCA accreditation. Keynote speakers Karen Drucker, Dr. David Gruder, Dr. Shamini Jain, and Dr. Joan Borysenko addressed such topics as energy therapy self-care, integrity in the client/practitioner relationship, a survey of the scientific landscape of biofield science, and a positive overview of 45 years of research supporting the use of energy medicine as a complementary modality, respectively.

The growth and blossoming of our "gardeners" (energy practitioners) was demonstrated in Poster Presentations on the effect of Healing Touch (HT) on sleep patterns of pediatric burn patients; the effectiveness of HT intervention on the reduction of hospital employees' pain, anxiety, and stress; the use of HT as a support through the cancer journey; successful use of HT as a complement to traditional wound care strategies; the development of several programs providing HT to veterans, with a result of decreased chronic pain, anxiety, and PTSD; the development and impact of a  HT program on clients and staff in a residential treatment facility; and the development of the Healing Touch Program in Japan.  Networking in this setting sent practitioners home, challenged to "do the work" of bringing Healing Touch to every individual, home, school, hospital, healthcare facility, and community.

This review was submitted to Natural Awakenings Magazine. Thanks Betty!

HTPA Update

We are proud to present the 2014 HTPA Annual Report. The report was introduced at the 2014 worldwide conference, and is the last major report that Sharon prepared. She was so pleased with this year's HTPA Annual report. As you renew your membership in HTPA you will receive a free hard copy of this report.

Our focus this year is on Professional Development - Transforming Health Care. We have built our 2014 Theme around the metaphor of the Butterfly's journey to Flight as it aligns with the birth and growth of HTPA. The metaphor was chosen by Sharon, and is even more appropriate than we imagined. When we consider that in the butterfly migrations, new butterflies are created and others lost along the way so that the original pioneers on the journey begin the process, and those who come later continue it, and those who come in the future finally see it completed. We hope our journey in HTPA is a long successful one, and we are grateful for those who have led the way.

The HTPA Annual Report can be viewed as a Booklet or by a Standard PDF which also allows you to print your choice of pages. The HTPA Annual Reports are also available to HTPA members upon request from the HTP Office. They make beautiful educational pieces to have on your table when doing any Community Outreach or even to have in your office where you see clients. They are an impressive way to show your professional alliances. We would love to hear your suggestions, comments, ideas. YOUR voice is important to us - we DO listen.

HTPA created and provided pendulums as gifts for the 2014 conference participants. These pendulums were designed by Lisa and Sharon, and hand made by the HTP office staff. They have a rounded end stone, and a logo charm that has HTPA on one side and Love on the other. It was requested that we put these pendulums in the HT Store for those that were not at conference. Limited quantities are available. LINK and PICTURE

Finally, as we continue on the path ahead of us we will need to find a person that is motivated and excited to continue to lead HTPA on our journey. We are interested in hearing from individuals that feel they are qualified to take on this challenge, and have a vision that is in alignment with the HTPA vision. Please send an email to Lisa Gordon at [email protected] and you will be sent instructions for the multi-step process we are using to find the best candidate to take on the position.

We thank you for your ongoing support and participation in HTPA, and if you are not a member, we invite you to become a member, so you can participate in the member benefits, and join us on our journey.

HTPA Professional Development "Live" Interview

September HTPA Practitioner and Business Support "Live" Interview

Tuesday October 14, 2014 9pm Eastern

Simple Energy Tools for Professionals, Practitioners and Students

with Loree Oberle-Edwards, DD, HTCP/I, CMICP/L

Add a description As soon as you see Loree's e-mail address you have your first clue as to what she emphasizes and practices - it is @empowerpeople.com. That sounds valuable doesn't it? Well that's just the beginning of the valuable information she has to share.

Loree asks, "do you ever find yourself experiencing any of these feelings?"

  • Stressed
  • Anxious
  • Exhausted
  • Overwhelmed

If you're like virtually everyone else in this world, then you can answer yes to these questions at least once in a while. Loree has the tools to easily address this: she says "you can find out how to quickly feel relaxed, refreshed and revitalized without long processes, practices or prescriptions!" Just attend the "Live" Interview with Loree to learn simple, yet effective techniques that will make a big difference for you.

What makes Loree's approach to these energy tools unique is that she operates from the fundamental understanding that everything is energy - thoughts, words, our physical bodies, rocks, planets and stars etc.  What makes the difference is "the density and frequency of the energy of which it is composed."  She presents her concepts in a playful and simple, easy to grasp way so that you can quickly benefit from these powerful perspectives and tools.

During our interview with Loree, you will learn how using these concepts about energy can help you address the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical issues in your personal life and professional practice. In other words, Loree will help you gain a deeper understanding of how your vital energies work (or sometimes don't work) for you and how you can be more clear and effective in managing your energy each day.

In our training as energy practitioners, most of us received a fair amount of insight into the idea that we have an energy field that exists in and around us.  We know that our energies interact with other fields. Yet Loree goes further to add and describe our abilities and responsibilities - she will share tools of how to set and maintain your energetic boundaries, how to clear unwanted energies, to choose and manage your vibrational state and more.

Do join us for an interview that is sure to be interesting, beneficial and as Loree says "simple and fun"

Creating an Opportunity to Share HT

Creating an Opportunity

to Share Healing Touch

By: Cindy Palajac, HTCP/I

London, ON

Recently, I broke my right 5th metacarpal playing with my grandson the day before the HTP Worldwide Conference in Chicago. I eagerly awaited to catch my 19 month old grandson at the bottom of the slide. His 30 lbs. collided with my baby finger as I attempted to catch him and prevent him from hitting his head on the slide. I heard it break and off to the walk in clinic we went.

A broken bone is a great opportunity to share with the staff on hand what you do as a living, what conference you are attending and how you will be supported in your healing at the conference.

Anytime I get in front of "newbies" to Healing Touch I love to share. It is what Janet Mentgen has asked us to do. Share with 3 new people each day. So upon my return to Canada and seeing my General Practitioner who sent me to see a Plastic Surgeon at our local teaching hospital. I had the opportunity to speak to 3 people at my doctor's office, 5 people at the hospital (receptionist, x-ray technician, intern, resident and the Plastic Surgeon Doctor. Both my GP and Surgeon showed interest in Healing Touch so I gave them both the flyer on Healing Touch.

Follow up is equally important so when I returned 3 weeks later for my check up with the surgeon I again saw 5 people (receptionist, nurse, intern, resident and doctor). Synergy was created with the nurse recognizing my name and asking what high school I went to. We grew up in the same town and went the same high school. We had a lovely conversation which created a warm reception from all the doctors.

This time I took the Energy Bodies and Energetic Diagrams Chart and my business card and gave it to the doctor. He had asked me about the energy field and how it helped to heal broken bones on my first visit. This visit he asked how I could tell what field needed to be healed. Stay tuned to the next visit in two weeks. What else is possible? Keep talking to people and meet them where they are.

Healing Touch Association of Canada 2015 Conference
HTAC CONFERENCE 2015 - NANAIMO, BC
Healing Touch Association of Canada
April 23-26, 2015
"Healing Together"

Great speakers, fun reunions of Healing Touch friends and a wonderful waterfront atmosphere.

Nanaimo is officially known as Harbour City for good reason. Stretched like a long, lean finger along the east coast of south-central Vancouver Island, British Columbia's sixth-largest city gets its identity, history and a wealth of recreation from a lovely, island-sheltered harbour right in the heart of town. Hiking, boating, kayaking, biking and world-class scuba diving and snorkeling are everyday activities at the bustling waterfront, as seaplanes take flight from sparkling blue waters.

Today, Nanaimo (population 84,228) is a fast-growing urban centre that is no longer merely the premier gateway to Vancouver Island. A boldly revitalized downtown core, delightful harbour front walkway, sparkling new museum, affordable art galleries, and a wealth of cool shopping and dining alternatives are good reasons to park the car, find accommodations and stay awhile.
